Applying for Funding is Easy!

Saskatchewan Job Grant
Please be advised that the Saskatchewan Job Grant is now closed for applications until April 1, 2025.
Over the coming weeks applications submitted before the closure will continue to be reviewed. Applications submitted less than 10 business days prior to the start date of training may not be approved.

Employers can access up to $10,000 in funding per employee for a maximum of $100,000 each year. This government grant covers two-thirds of the training program fees, greatly reducing the cost to you, the employer. This gives you and your employees the perfect opportunity to build a highly skilled team and ongoing success through investment in continuous professional development.

    1. Choose the Professional Certificate or Microcrocredential you are interested in. Eligible programs include:
Customize any of these programs or create your own and still qualify for this funding. Find out how by completing a Proposal Request and start the conversation.
    1. Confirm your business' eligibility
      • Private and not-for-profit sector employers are eligible; publicly funding organizations such as health regions, post-secondary training institutions, public libraries, municipalities and school divisions are not.
      • Both existing and potential employees are eligible.

    2. Contact us to get a training provider quote.
    3. Complete the Employer Application Form (pdf).
    4. Submit your application to your nearest Saskatchewan Job Grant (CSJG) office.
URAA Alumni Professional Development Award

Calling all U of R Alumni! The University of Regina Alumni Association has introduced a $25,000 fund to financially support you, our alumni, in your career goals. Awards in the amount of $500 per term are now available for all alumni seeking career and professional development through CCE. You can access the award multiple times!

Eligibility

To Apply

Professional Development Courses and Programs

  1. Complete the application form (pdf).
  2. Email the completed form to Student Services.
  3. You will receive your confirmation from Student Awards and Financial Aid.

Undergraduate Programs

  1. Go to the Student Awards and Financial Aid application database.
  2. Register as "Guest."
  3. Search for "URAA Alumni Professional Development Award."
  4. Complete the online application.

Canada Training Credit

For those between the ages of 26 and 65, claim the refundable Canada Training Tax Credit on your annual income tax return to reduce your tax owing!

  • Starting in 2020, you can claim $250 each year.
  • Unused amounts are carried forward each year and accrue for a maximum lifetime amount of $5,000.
  • All Continuing Education professional development fees are eligible for the credit.

What is professional development?

Professional development at the University of Regina's Centre for Continuing Education is short hands-on training where you'll learn in-demand skills that you can instantly apply at work to boost your performance, and your career. Our programs are industry-recognized and can help you pursue specific careers.

Professional development programming is typically completed fairly quickly – from a few days, up to a few years depending on the skill or credential you’re looking for. For this reason, CCE professional development programming can respond better to our labour market demands.

Those who find themselves successful in their careers can likely be described as lifelong learners who take advantage of reskilling and upskilling throughout their careers.

What do I get when I complete CCE professional development programs?

Whether you are taking a single course targeting a specific skill or are combining your learning to complete a Professional Certificate or Microcertificate, you can trust you are getting industry-relevant, practical learning and networking opportunities.

Depending on the course or program you choose, the outcome can be different.

Professional Microcertificates and Badged Courses

Microcertificates courses tend to be skill-specific.

  • Get a digital badge with the completion of each course from a Professional Microcertificate
  • Get a digital Professional Microcertificate when you complete the required three courses

Professional Certificates

Professional Certificates give you a more broad skill-set within the area it covers.

  • Complete the 7 required courses to earn a University of Regina Professional Certificate.
  • Get a printed parchment to recognize your accomplishment.
  • Become a U of R alum and get access to all the benefits including eligibility for the URAA Alumni Award.

Accreditation

When you complete programming or professional certificate in select areas, you may receive PDUs or CDUs from the corresponding professional bodies.

Can I get funding?
There are funding opportunities available. Check our list of current funding opportunities, check your eligibility and apply.
How am I assessed in my professional development courses?

Course completion is based on pass/fail assigned by instructor. For each course, you are expected to:

  • Participate in 14 hours of learning
    • In-person courses are 14 hours in the classroom
    • Remote courses are typically 9 hours in the classroom with pre-work such as instructor-provided readings or small tasks
  • Attend 80% of each day of the course
You will find active participation in your course won’t be difficult! Our instructors strive to create an open and participatory space for all participants.
Do I have to be admitted to the U of R to take CCE professional development?

No – there are no applications and no admission is required! You don’t need to have any prior education to participate in CCE Professional Development courses and programs. These learning opportunities are designed so you can decide if you want to take one course, multiple courses or complete a Professional Microcertificate or Certificate. In fact, some of the credentials awarded by CCE are created just for a specific employee group through custom training.

Absolutely! Our Business Development Consultant can work with you to develop a Custom Training program tailored to your needs. Take the first step by filling out a free proposal request or get added to our email list. We’ll review your information and then get in touch with you to discuss potential options.

Can your programs be offered for a group of employees or as custom training?

Yes, all of our programs can be offered to groups as a custom training program. You can use our Custom Training Program Request form to request a free Proposal. Our expert instructors will tailor content to your specific industry and training goals with areas of study ranging from emotional intelligence and project management to leadership and risk management.
