Global Mobility

The Global Mobility office supports students, professionals, and scholars who are wanting to gain valuable knowledge and experience by adding a research visit abroad to their academic experience. As research has become increasingly interdisciplinary and networked, we encourage our visiting researchers to use the intellectual resources available at the University of Regina for a period of productive academic and professional development in their academic fields.

Our Programs

Undergraduate Visiting Research Students

The Undergraduate Visiting Research Student (UVRS) Program is designed to provide an opportunity for undergraduate students enrolled in a degree program at an accredited institution to gain valuable experience, specialized training, and research collaboration at the University of Regina.

Visiting Graduate Research Students

The Visiting Graduate Research Student (VGRS) Program is designed to provide an opportunity for graduate students enrolled in a degree program at an accredited institution to gain valuable experience, specialized training, and research experience at the University of Regina.

Visiting Professionals and Scholars

The Visiting Professionals and Scholars program provides academic and professional development opportunities for international visitors that are mutually beneficial to the individual, their home institution, and the University of Regina. Our goal is to contribute to the University of Regina's international mission through the exchange of research, scholarship, and education. The Visiting Professionals and Scholars program offers opportunities for interested candidates under one of the following categories:

  • Visiting Professors
  • Visiting Researchers
  • Visiting Artists

Bringing brilliant minds and ideas together for international partnerships and collaborations from around the globe is what the Global Mobility office aims to do with its programs. Whether it is mentoring the next generation of researchers, or academic exchanges with your global peers, our office can help.

Eligibility

UVRS and VGRS Programs

For students to be eligible for the Undergraduate Visiting Research Student (UVRS) and the Visiting Graduate Research Student (VGRS) program, they must:

  • Be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Be in good academic standing at their Home Institution
  • Have a Host Supervisor at the University of Regina who has agreed to host them
  • Have a research plan or proposal for the time that they will be spending at the University of Regina
  • Have funding from one of the following sources: their home institution, an official scholarship- or grant- awarding body, or an agreement with the Faculty Host
    Visiting Research Student program candidates cannot be self-funded.

Undergraduate and Graduate Visiting Research Students are not considered students of the University of Regina and therefore are not permitted to attend any classes for credit towards a degree program at their home institution.

Visiting Professionals and Scholars Program

For an individual to be eligible for the Visiting Professionals and Scholars program, they must:

  • Hold a Doctoral degree, or equivalent (if coming as a Visiting Professor)
  • Be a current faculty or staff member at an accredited institution, organization, or government body
  • Have connected with a Faculty Host at the University of Regina who has agreed to host them for the duration of their research visit
  • Be on approved leave from their position
  • Have funding from one of the following sources: their home institution, an official scholarship- or grant- awarding body, or an agreement with the Faculty Host
    Visiting Professionals and Scholars program candidates cannot be self-funded.

Program Fees

UVRS and VGRS Programs

A program fee of $400 CAD ($100 Application Fee; $300 Program Service Fee) will be applied for the research visit.

UVRS and VGRS candidates are also responsible for the full payment of University of Regina Students’ Union fees and Recreation and Athletics fees. These fees must be paid each semester and are subject to change.

Research visits that span more than one (1) semester will have a $200 CAD rollover fee applied at the beginning of each subsequent semester.

Visiting Professionals and Scholars Program

The program fees for the Visiting Professionals and Scholars program are as follows:

  • For visits that are up to 120-days in length: $400 CAD
  • For visits longer than 120-days, up to one (1) year in length: $600 CAD
  • For extension of a visit for up to one (1) year: $400 CAD

How to Apply

To get started on inviting a visiting researcher, professor, or research student to the University of Regina, please send an email to Global.Mobility@uregina.ca with the following documents from the interested candidate:

  • Their research plan
  • Their updated CV
  • Their funding letter

These documents will be sent for pre-approval, and if received, the official application process can begin.
