Registration Requirements for International Students
Your Registration Responsibilities
As an international student, you're required to actively pursue your studies, remain enrolled, and make reasonable and timely progress towards the completion of your program. Registration requirements vary according to your level of study, so make sure to review the following information carefully as it can have significant impacts to your status in Canada and future immigration applications.
Undergraduate is defined as enrolled in a certificate, diploma, or bachelor's program.
Graduate is defined as being enrolled in a master's, doctoral, or Ph.D program.

Fall and Winter Terms
- Fall and Winter terms are not optional terms. International students must be registered full-time to avoid complications with respect to future immigration applications and their eligibility to work while studying.
- Most courses are worth 3 credit hours; however, some mandatory courses (e.g., SCI 099, CCE 099, etc.) are non-credit.
- 9 credit hours is the minimum to be considered a full-time student, but you have the option to take more classes, up to a maximum of 15 credit hours (typically 5 classes) in any term.
Spring and Summer Terms:
- Example 1: If you are enrolled in 9 credit hours in Winter 2024 and Fall 2024, the Spring and Summer 2024 term can be considered a scheduled break.
- Example 2: If Fall 2024 was not your final semester or you will not be registered full-time (or at all), then Spring and Summer 2024 is not considered a scheduled break.
