Reconciliation in Action

On September 18, 2024 the University of Regina signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the North Central Family Centre (NCFC) in Regina, Saskatchewan.

The University of Regina, informed by the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions’ Calls to Action, is committed to renewed relationship building that restores justice, trust, and equity for all.  This relationship with NCFC, guided by the tenets of reconciliation, will serve to support a strong and healthy community in north central Regina, while respecting self-determination by the NCFC.

Through this partnership, both North Central Family Centre and the University of Regina will be enhanced and supported.  The MOA commits NCFC to provide access to space for the UofR R to deliver programs and services, all of which will be established in consultation with the NCFC Elders, staff, and administrators.

Initiatives Underway

EYES (Educating Youth in Engineering and Science) 2025 Summer Camp

Hosted onsite at NCFC, this EYES (Educating Youth in Engineering and Science) Camp focuses on Indigenous youth. EYES is a not-for-profit science education outreach organization based at the University of Regina within the Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science. It is an independent organization but is part of the Actua’s Canadian network which consists of 33 member organizations, mostly operating through universities, that deliver barrier breaking science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs to over 250,000 youth across Canada each year. Actua’s goal is to make science, engineering and technology more accessible and engaging to youth in Canada, as well as encourage youth to consider future careers in STEM. Each program affiliated with Actua has a unique name, so EYES only exists at the University of Regina.  EYES’ mission is to spark curiosity in boys and girls aged 6 to 14 (Grades 2-9) through interactive, hands-on, engaging activities. This is done through summer camps, in-school workshops and weekend clubs.

The program provides engaging and positive STEM experiences for youth.  Each Summer, EYES offers a variety of STEM themed summer camps for youth across southern Saskatchewan.   EYES typically offers 7 weeks of camp programming at the University of Regina, 8 weeks of camp at a variety of location across the province, and 6 weeks of camps focusing on low-income areas in the community.  For more information about EYES, please contact eyes@uregina.ca or 306.585.5209
