Veronica Santafe, PhD
Biography
Veronica Santafe is a passionate advocate for transdisciplinary and transnational research initiatives. Drawing on her lived experiences and academic background, she firmly believes that addressing today's complex global and local challenges demands solutions co-created by diverse voices and ways of knowing.
Veronica holds a PhD in Sustainability from the University of Saskatchewan. Her journey in sustainability and community engagement began in 2009 with the completion of her Master's degree at FLACSO Ecuador. She subsequently served as faculty at UTE University, where she championed community-led and Participatory Action Research. She is a co-founder of two non-profit organizations in Ecuador, led by Campesino women. Moreover, she actively volunteers with Indigenous-led non-profit organizations in Ecuador and Canada. Prior to joining the University of Regina, she held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Calgary, where her research focused on developing Living Labs for Sustainability Learning.
A lifelong learner, Veronica consistently expands her knowledge of digital facilitation tools, social innovation, and knowledge mobilization strategies to cultivate strong and equitable relationships between researchers and communities in Canada and beyond.
Veronica is fluent in English and Spanish, and is constantly re-learning Kichwa, a language inherited from her grandmothers.
