Singing Back the Buffalo: Film Screening and Storytelling with Tasha Hubbard

The Dr. John Archer Library & Archives, the Faculty of Education, and the ta-tawâw Student Centre are pleased to present a film screening of the new documentary Singing Back the Buffalo. Afterwards, join director Tasha Hubbard as she discusses her journey to being a director and Indigenous storyteller. This event is part of Indigenous Storytelling Month across libraries in Saskatchewan.  The public film screening and storytelling is hosted in celebration of the University of Regina’s 50th Anniversary and in recognition of the 150th Anniversary signing of Treaty No. 4.

About Tasha Hubbard

Tasha is an award-winning filmmaker from Peepeekisis First Nation in Treaty Four Territory and has paternal ties to Thunderchild First Nation.  Singing Back the Buffalo, written and directed by her, is an epic reimagining of North America through the lens of buffalo consciousness and a potent dream of what is within our grasp, which follows Indigenous visionaries and communities who are rematriating the buffalo to the lands they once defined.  Tasha Hubbard’s Canadian Screen Award winning Nîpawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up, opened Hot Docs in 2019, the first Indigenous-directed film to do so. The film took home the festival’s Best Canadian Feature prize and screened theatrically across Canada and at festivals around the world, with Hubbard picking up the DGC Discovery Award for her direction and winning the Canadian Academy award for Best Feature Documentary.
