Gown Reservations

You will recieve a link to the gown reservation portal via uregina email in September.  It's important to reserve before the deadline. Reserve by September 27.

On the day of the ceremony, grads will pick up gowns and hoods beginning at 12:15 p.m. in Gym 2.  You will wear the regalia associated with your highest credential in your primary faculty.

First Nations University of Canada grads are to confirm their gown reservation by contacting the FNUniv Registrar's Office.

If you miss the deadline to reserve a gown, look for the designated line up to reserve on-the-spot before the ceremony. Arrive by 12:15 p.m.

For more information about academic regalia refer to Academic Regalia.

What to Wear

Although we make every effort to keep temperatures comfortable, you may become overly warm from the weight of the academic gown. Remember that you will walk and climb a few stairs; therefore, choose appropriate footwear and clothing. Corsages, extraneous apparel, and jewelry can not be pinned on the gown. Unapproved headgear (such as a cap and tassel) is not allowed.

University regulations require graduands participating in the convocation ceremony to do so in approved academic regalia – that is, an academic gown and hood.

  • Certificate and Diploma recipients do not wear a hood unless specified by the regalia guidelines.
  • Graduands will not wear the hood of a previously earned degree as they will receive a new hood at the ceremony.
  • The University of Regina's regalia does not include mortarboards (cap and tassel).
    • PhD students wear a scarlet gown with royal blue trim, facing and cuffs;
    • Campion College, red
    • Luther College, royal blue
    • First Nations University of Canada, sky blueAll students wear black gowns except for the following:
Graduands are welcome to wear their Indigenous ceremonial dress, other cultural ceremonial dress, or their military or law enforcement dress uniform with, or instead of, the gown at the convocation ceremonies. In these instances, graduands must still be hooded and wear the University of Regina hood. Graduands receiving more than one degree will wear the hood of their primary faculty. Only one hood can be worn. Protocol inquiries about appropriate academic regalia should be directed to ur.graduation@uregina.ca

What to Bring to the Ceremony

Bring your student id or government-issued photo id card.

Personal items are not permitted in the assembly room (Gym 1) or the ceremony gym (Gym 3).

You must leave personal items, such as purses, bags, or coats, with your guests or in the gown room (Gym 2) at your own risk. The University of Regina is not responsible for lost or damaged items.

Items must be picked up by 5:00 p.m. Unclaimed items will be available at the Registrar's Office, AH 210, the next business day.

During the Ceremony

Your convocation ceremony is an exciting occasion for you. While you joyfully celebrate, please be considerate of your fellow graduands. Extended, celebratory cheering during the presentation of graduands can rob other graduands the chance to hear their name being announced. There will be an opportunity for enthusiastic whistling and shouting after all graduands have been presented.

The ceremony is normally two hours long. Out of respect for your fellow graduands and distinguished guests, you are expected to stay until the end of the ceremony.

Following the Ceremony

You will be lead out of the gym through the same doors you entered. To avoid being lost in the crowd, make plans to meet your loved ones away from the exits or the lobby.

Regalia must be returned to Gym 2 (where you collected your gown) by 5:00 p.m. to be packed and prepared for shipping by the Gaspard staff. If the regalia is not returned, following one unsuccessful attempt to retrieve the item(s), you will be charged the replacement value of the regalia:

  • Bachelor hood $85.50
  • Master hood $96.80
  • PhD hood $151.40
  • Bachelors gown $112.25
  • Master gown $153.45
  • PhD gown $540.75
