  5. Welcoming the U of R’s first International Student of Distinction Scholars

The University of Regina is celebrating its first cohort of International Student of Distinction Scholars! These outstanding undergraduate students have received the International Student of Distinction Scholarship, valued at $80,000, which awards them free on-campus housing and meal plans for the duration of their 4-year program.

All international students who apply directly to an undergraduate program from high school are automatically considered for this scholarship; eligible students with the highest averages are awarded the scholarship.

We are thrilled to welcome this first cohort of International Student of Distinction Scholars to our diverse and vibrant campus community.  Haroon Chaudhry, Associate Vice-President (International)

As a special welcome, the cohort of scholars were celebrated at a campus breakfast with leaders from across the U of R prior to joining the rest of their new peers at the Fall 2024 New Student Orientation.

“The International Students of Distinction are an exceptionally talented group of students who could have studied anywhere in the world, and we are proud that they have chosen to pursue their degrees at the University of Regina,” said Dr. Jeff Keshen, U fo R President and Vice-Chancellor. “As a group and as individuals, in the coming years they and the students who follow in their footsteps through this program will make a tremendous impact at our University, in our province, and beyond. They have vast potential, and we are indeed eager to be part of their academic and life journey.”

The scholarship showcases the unique support the U of R offers its international student community.

“We are thrilled to welcome this first cohort of International Student of Distinction Scholars to our diverse and vibrant campus community,” said Haroon Chaudhry, Associate Vice-President (International). “This highly unique scholarship opportunity provides the foundation for these high-achieving students to receive a global education supported by individualized and specialized support services and programs that will facilitate a comprehensive and enriching academic experience. Our scholars come from all over the world and we are very much looking forward to celebrating their achievements and the bright futures that lay ahead for them.”

Congratulations to this year’s International Student of Distinction Scholars!

About the University of Regina

2024 marks our 50th anniversary as an independent University (although our roots as Regina College date back more than a century!). As we celebrate our past, we work towards a future that is as limitless as the prairie horizon. We support the health and well-being of our 17,000 students and provide them with hands-on learning opportunities to develop career-ready graduates – more than 90,000 alumni enrich communities in Saskatchewan and around the globe. Our research enterprise has grown to 21 research centres and 9 Canada Research Chairs. Our campuses are on Treaties 4 and 6 - the territories of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda peoples, and the homeland of the Michif/Métis nation. We seek to grow our relationships with Indigenous communities to build a more inclusive future.

Let’s go far, together.
