After a somewhat quiet summer, which included the start of University of Regina’s 50th Anniversary year of celebrations, U of R campuses are buzzing with activity and a record-setting number of students.
As of the first day of classes, 17,409 new and returning students are attending the U of R, which is an increase of 524 students over the first day of classes in the fall 2023 term. This includes 2,332 Indigenous students and 4,793 international students.
"This is a fantastic start to the Fall term in our 50th anniversary year, and we are excited to welcome both new and returning students,” says Dr. Jeff Keshen, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Regina. “As more than 2,800 new students from Saskatchewan and around the world begin their studies here this fall, we remain committed to truth and reconciliation, providing exceptional hands-on learning opportunities, and prioritizing student mental health and wellness.”
(All enrolment numbers are preliminary. The U of R’s official enrolment numbers will be available in October.)
On August 30, University faculty, staff, and students helped close to 500 students move into their new homes on campus. There will be around 1,000 students living on campus this fall.
After the Labour Day long weekend, hundreds of new students returned to campus on September 3 for Orientation Day to learn all about the U of R and what they can expect as they get ready to dive into university life.
The fun isn’t over yet! The U-Prairie Challenge, presented by SaskMilk, Tailgate Party and Football Game is on Friday, September 6 at Mosaic Stadium. Admission is free for U of R students. Go Rams!
The University of Regina Students’ Union (URSU) also has an entire line-up of exciting events planned for Welcome Week, running September 7 to 13. Visit their site for full details.

About the University of Regina
2024 marks our 50th anniversary as an independent University (although our roots as Regina College date back more than a century!). As we celebrate our past, we work towards a future that is as limitless as the prairie horizon. We support the health and well-being of our 17,000 students and provide them with hands-on learning opportunities to develop career-ready graduates – more than 90,000 alumni enrich communities in Saskatchewan and around the globe. Our research enterprise has grown to 21 research centres and 9 Canada Research Chairs. Our campuses are on Treaties 4 and 6 - the territories of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda peoples, and the homeland of the Michif/Métis nation. We seek to grow our relationships with Indigenous communities to build a more inclusive future.
Let’s go far, together.
