With the conclusion of the fall term it’s time for the annual University holiday season break. Please take note of the following information regarding the University's available services during this festive season.
Faculties and departments will be closed from noon on December 22, up to and including January 1. During this period, most services will be either unavailable or operating at limited capacity The University will resume its usual hours and operations on January 2, 2024 leading up to the start of classes the following week.
The Centre for Kinesiology, Health and Sport’s Fitness and Lifestyle Centre and the pool will have the following reduced hours during the holiday break. A valid student or membership card is required.
December 22 – closed after noon
December 23 -26 - closed
December 27-29 – 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
December 30 – 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.
December 31 – 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
January 1 - closed

The Dr. John Archer Library will be closed, however, electronic resources, including journals, books, databases, and video streaming services, will remain accessible. Renewals for books can be done online, and the library will reopen at 7:30 a.m. on January 2. To access the library’s online services, click here.
All food service locations across the university will be closed during the holiday break. Students livingon-campus will receive direct communication regarding available meals. Resident and community assistants, as well as residence life co-ordinators, will remain accessible during the break.
On-campus security
During the holiday break, only those with Main Campus building and office keys and/or residence keys/cards will be allowed to enter campus buildings.
Emergency calls can be placed to 306-585-4999 as Campus Security is on site throughout the holiday season. Remeber to have your U of R ID card on hand.
During the closure, University buildings will be heated and ventilated to minimum levels to save energy costs. Classes start back up for the Winter term on January 8, 2024. The registrar’s office has summarized tuition payment schedules, deadlines for adding and dropping classes and other important dates on its website.
