On Thursday, January 19, 2023, the U of R Centre for Continuing Education’s Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC) and the Seniors’ University Group (SUG) is holding a welcome and orientation session for new and prospective students/members.
“Learning occurs in a casual and friendly space without the pressure of essays or exams and the courses are taught by instructors who are passionate about sharing their knowledge,” Kerrie Strathy, Community Program Manager.
Thursday, January 19
The free session is being held from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. in College Building Room 112 at the College Avenue Campus and participants will learn about the many course offerings provided by LLC as well as the benefits of joining the SUG.
“Personal interest courses at the Lifelong Learning Centre are open to everyone regardless of previous education or age,” said Kerrie Strathy, Manager, Community Programs (LLC and Conservatory of Performing Arts). “Learning occurs in a casual and friendly space without the pressure of essays or exams and the courses are taught by instructors who are passionate about sharing their knowledge.”
Lifelong Learning Centre
The LLC offers a wide variety of courses within several general areas of interest. Check out current course offerings:
- Explore Your World – discover current events, local history and architecture, the universe, etc.
- Technology and Computing – learn tips and tricks to master the latest technology
- Fitness and Wellness – experience the benefits of physical activity and good health
- Home and Lifestyle – explore budgeting and finance, gardening and landscaping, travel and wine
- Language and Culture – expand your perspective and enhance your travel by learning a new language
- Music and the Arts – let your creativity shine through a variety of artistic activities
- Writing & Literature – courses appealing to aspiring authors, book lovers, and more
Participants at the orientation session will also be introduced to the Seniors’ University Group and SUG board members will be in attendance to discuss the group’s mission to “promote the value and availability of lifelong learning to older members of the community in partnership with the LLC.”
