Volunteer Opportunities
There are numerous ways for students to get involved in their communities through volunteering. Following are some of the of organizations that support volunteering in Saskatchewan:
Volunteer Saskatoon - A service through the United way, Volunteer Saskatoon will help fit a volunteer experience to you, the volunteer.
United Way of Regina - The United Way has compiled a listing of volunteer opportunities in Regina, including opportunities in counselling and guidance.
Charity Village - A source of information, news and resources for Canada's non-profit community, this site provides a searchable listing of volunteer opportunities across Canada.
Student Energy in Action for Regina Community Health (SEARCH) - A student run interdisciplinary health care initiative, this non-profit organization provides access to clinical and social services in an after-hours clinical setting.
Student Wellness Initiative Toward Community Health (SWITCH) Saskatoon - SWITCH was created by students in order to enrich educational experiences and to provide much needed services for Saskatoon’s core neighbourhoods.
Big Sky Centre for Learning and Being Astonished! - Inclusion is person specific; its outcomes are both individual and communal. It always begins with the dreams and hopes of the individual. In order to be included we begin by identifying where and how we want to be included, and then work with others toward attaining this. The Astonished! Teaching and Learning Centre (A!TLC) is a unique inclusion collaboration between the University of Regina and The Big Sky Centre for Learning and Being Astonished Inc. A!TLC works in inclusive community to address barriers facing young adults with complex physical disAbilities (Student Researchers) by creating opportunities for social, recreational and cultural engagement, and for employment and housing.
Interprofessional Education - a collaborative approach to learning where students from various health professions come together to develop a comprehensive care plan. Students across different professional disciplines are given a scenario/case and work as a multidisciplinary team to address the concerns presented. These activities are an excellent way to build your liaising, collaborative and group skills, and this is the first time it is being offered remotely! Sofia House - an organization that provides housing and comprehensive services to families who have experienced domestic violence.
Canadian Red Cross - Connects volunteers with seniors for weekly home visits or phone calls. Call 306-216-6602 to volunteer.
University of Regina Community / Volunteer Service - provides links to volunteer opportunities on campus.
The University's Career Centre hosts an annual Volunteer Fair for students interested in meeting representatives from various organizations seeking volunteers.
