Abstract:
The ordinary distribution functions often fail to provide an adequate fit for a data set showing zero inflation, excess zeros, and sparseness. To address these issues, statisticians compound a suitable distribution with a traditional one, resulting in an improved model compared to the traditional model. The Lindley distribution and its extensions are among the most common distributions for combining with ordinary distribution functions, demonstrating effective results in various applications.
In this talk, I will explore the compounding of the binomial distribution with the three-parameter Lindley distribution, a novel approach designed to address the limitations of standard models. I will discuss the motivation behind this compounding technique and its construction. Additionally, I will explore some of the probabilistic properties of the newly developed model.
