Awards and Scholarships

The Department of Computer Science has many scholarship opportunities available to undergraduate students. Below is a list of awards targeted specifically to students enrolled in programs offered by the Department.

Entrance awards

Compugen Young Indigenous Women in Saskatchewan Technology Award

1 awards ($2500)

Deadline 15 March, application required

The award will be presented to an entering University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria: 

  • Minimum 75% admission average;
  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in Computer Science;
  • Must self-declare as Indigenous;
  • Must self-identify as a female;
  • Under the age of 40 years old; and
  • Completes a written statement (up to 500 words) demonstrating why they chose to pursue their studies in Computer Science, and how receiving the award would impact their academic plans. 

Deloitte Bursary for Indigenous Students in Information Technology

1 awards ($5000)

Deadline 1 October, application required

The bursary will be awarded to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:

  • Pursuing a degree in the Faculty of Science, majoring in a degree program offered by the Department of Computer Science, or the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, majoring in Software Systems Engineering;
  • Registered and remains registered in 9 credit hours in the term the award is presented;
  • Self-declared as Indigenous;
  • Domestic student;
  • Demonstrates financial need; and
  • Students must submit a written response (up to 300 words) to the following question: "What excites you about pursing a degree in technology?"

Continuing Awards

Deloitte Bursary in Computer Science

1 award ($5000)

Deadline 3 October, application required

The bursary will be awarded to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in the Department of Computer Science;
  • Completed a minimum of 23 credit hours;
  • Registered and remains registered in 9 credit hours in the term the award is presented;
  • Domestic student;
  • Demonstrates financial need; and
  • Students must submit a written response (up to 300 words) to the following question: "Why did you choose to pursue a degree in computer science and what do you hope to achieve?"

Peter J. Puckall Memorial Bursary in Computer Science

2 awards ($2375)

Deadline 1 February, application required

The bursary will be awarded annually to University of Regina students who meet the following criteria: 

  • Have successfully completed 60 credit hours toward a Bachelor of Science degree, with a declared major in Computer Science
  • Have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 75%
  • Have completed CS 330 and 18 credit hours of Computer Science courses
  • Enrolled as a full-time student in the semester the award is presented (minimum of 12 credit hours)
  • Must be a graduate of a Saskatchewan high school
  • Must write a detailed summary, not to exceed one page, on current interests in computing and/or business, computer related activities both in and outside of the university. 

Note: Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need, as cited on the application form. 

Viterra Scholarship in Computer Science

1 award ($1500)

Deadline 3 October, no application required

The scholarship will be awarded to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in the Faculty of Science, majoring in Computer Science
  • Minimum undergraduate grade point average (UGPA) of 80%
  • Completed a minimum of 23 credit hours
  • Registered and remains registered in 9 credit hours in the semester the scholarship is presented

FCC Student Ambassador Award

7 awards ($2000; $1000 paid in the Fall, $1000 paid in the Winter)

Deadline 3 October, application required

The award will be presented to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Business Administration or the Faculty of Science with a major in Computer Science;
  • Registered and remains registered in a minimum of 9 credit hours in the semester the award is presented;
  • Minimum Undergraduate Grade Point Average (UGPA) of 65%;
  • Completed a minimum of 23 credit hours;
  • Self-declare as Aboriginal, a visible minority or a person with a disability; and
  • Has completed a summer work placement with Farm Credit Canada in the preceding summer term and has received a positive work evaluation from FCC for their summer employment.

Note: Students may receive this award twice throughout their academic career. The award will be distributed in two equal payments of $1,000; the first will be issued in the fall semester, and the second issued in the winter semester.

Shell Canada Scholarship in Computer Science

2 awards ($3100)

Deadline 3 October, application required

The scholarship will be awarded to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science with a major in Computer Science  
  • Successfully completed a minimum of 53 credit hours with a minimum of 12 credit hours completed in Computer Science courses out of 53   
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 80%   
  • Registered in a minimum of 12 credit hours the semester the award is presented   
  • Involved in extra-curricular activities such as volunteering, athletics and/or cultural activities   
  • Written statement on personal career objectives

Notes:

  • Preference will be given to students pursuing employment in their related field of study (Computer Science) upon graduation of their undergraduate degree
  • Students applying for this award may be considered for the Shell Canada Aboriginal Scholarship in Computer Science if no eligible candidate is found
  • Recipients of this award will have the opportunity to interview for potential work term placements or employment opportunities with Shell Canada Limited and consent to have their contact information shared with Shell Canada Limited for potential recruitment purposes
