Canada Foundation for Innovation

CFI is the Canadian federal funding agency that invests in state-of-the-art infrastructure that enables world-class research. The provincial agency Innovation Saskatchewan typically provides further support for CFI-funded projects through the Innovation and Science Fund.

John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF)

This supports the research infrastructure required for the very best researchers to undertake leading-edge research. It enables institutions to remain internationally competitive in areas of research and technology development aligned with their strategic priorities.

A formal internal process for John R. Evans Leaders fund (JELF) applications identifies projects that can move forward to the external CFI application. This internal call is announced through the Research email list service. The timing for the next internal call will be identified when CFI provides the next allocation for.

Innovation Fund

This supports transformative infrastructure projects that would underpin cutting-edge, globally competitive research. It enables institutions and their researchers to build on established capabilities to accelerate current research and technology development to enhance strategic priority areas. This competition is every two years.

In an effort to maximize development time and support to potential Innovation Fund applicants, the University of Regina has undertaken an internal strategic review and identified UofR-lead projects moving forward for the 2025 competition.

UofR researchers who wish to participate in an Innovation Fund proposal being lead by another institution where a contribution from the UofR’s CFI envelope is being requested by the lead institution must contact the Manager of Research Grants by May.
