Transfer Credit Process for New Undergraduate Students
A transfer credit assessment of your official post-secondary and advanced high school transcript(s) from Canada and United States will be completed by Transfer Credit Services automatically once you have been admitted to an undergraduate program at the U of R. You should expect an assessment within 3 weeks of receiving your admissions offer. Transfer credit is not assessed for non-credit or after degree programs.
International transcript assessments are available upon request. After admission, submit the International Transfer Credit Assessment Request for an assessment of your international post-secondary transcripts. There is a $100 fee for the assessment.
Assessments for certificate and diploma programs offered through the Centre for Continuing Education are available upon request. After admission, submit the Centre for Continuing Education Transfer Credit Assessment Request for an assessment of your post-secondary transcripts. There is a $100 fee for the assessment.
NOTE: Transfer credit will not be awarded for any courses taken at a post-secondary institution that is not declared on the application for admission.
Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) transcripts are automatically assessed upon receipt directly from the testing agency. These transcripts differ from your provincial Ministry of Education high school transcript which is used for admissions purposes but lacks the details needed for credit assessment. Please send your official AP and IB transcripts with your application or soon after receiving an admission offer.
Courses taken at the graduate level will not be recognized for undergraduate transfer credit and vice versa. For graduate level transfer credit please contact the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research.

- Process Complete OR you may want to submit course outlines for any placeholder courses
- Course outlines assessed by subject experts
- Results applied to your record, potentially resulting in additional transfer credit
Additional Information
Courses assessed with an equivalent placeholder "TRCR DOC" indicate either a lack of previous assessment or an outdated assessment (more than 10 years old). To have these courses evaluated, please submit a course outline (syllabus) and Course Assessment Request form to transfer.credit@uregina.ca.
Assessments are conducted only for courses potentially applicable to a student's program, subject to residency limits and minimum grade requirements.
Note: We do not assess course outlines for prospective students. Outlines should include subject, course code, credit value, learning objectives, topics covered, evaluation methods, and reference materials.Current students must receive permission from their Faculty or Federated College before registering for courses at another institution. Permission is obtained through a Letter of Permission (LOP) or Exchange Agreement.
After completing studies, students must send official transcripts to the Registrar’s Office (LOP) or Study Abroad Office (Exchange). Transfer credit will be applied as per the terms of your permission once official transcripts have been received.
There is a $30 fee per approved course on a Letter of Permission. This fee is charged when the letter is issued and is non-refundable if registration is canceled. Additional fees apply for changes to an existing LOP. The U of R reserves the right to refuse transfer credit for courses taken without permission.
To be eligible for transfer credit consideration, coursework must be taken at a post-secondary institution where one of the following conditions is satisfied:
- A Canadian institution that is a member of Colleges and Institutes Canada or Universities Canada.
- A Canadian institution that is affiliated with a Universities Canada member institution, or accredited by the Association of Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) or the Association of Theological Schools (ATS).
- An institution from the USA that is a member of a regional accreditation body as recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- An institution outside of Canada or the USA that has been approved by its country's approved authority for education as determined by the Enrolment Services Admissions Unit or; the UR International's Admissions Unit or; Transfer Credit Services or; by the Registrar or; by a qualified international qualifications assessment service.
- Courses taken at a Quebec CGEP toward the completion of a DEC that have not been used to meet admission requirements will be considered for transfer credit to a maximum of 30 credits.
Other recognized coursework includes:
- Some courses through the College Board's Advanced Placement examinations. A minimum grade of 4 is required for transfer. The U of R’s AP College code is 0830.
- Some courses through the International Baccalaureate program. A minimum grade of 5 is required for transfer.
-
Advanced level courses taken through British patterned curriculums such as Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel. A minimum grade of B is required for transfer. Advanced subsidiary courses generally do not transfer.
AP, IB, and British patterned courses are searchable on our transfer credit database.
Appeals regarding transfer credit decisions begin with an informal discussion with Transfer Credit Services who will consult with the academic area. If unsatisfied with the outcome, students can formally appeal to the Registrar by submitting a rationale outlining the results of the discussion and reasons for reconsideration. Courses not meeting minimum grade requirements or from ineligible institutions are ineligible for appeal.
The Registrar will coordinate the appeal review with the Dean or Academic Unit Director, Department Head or Program Chair, and a relevant faculty member. The Registrar chairs the review, and decisions made by the committee are final.
Transfer credit assessments are comprehensive and review all courses successfully completed regardless of program fit. Once awarded, the transferred credit is subject to faculty and program regulations such as minimum grade (most require a minimum grade of 60% U of R equivalent), residency, and stale-date.
Residency stipulates the maximum amount of transfer credit that can apply to a program and most programs limit transfer credit to maximum of 50% of course requirements.
Stale-date refers to the currency of the transferred content. The length of time since the course was completed may dictate if it can be used in a program. The length of the stale-date period varies by discipline and may be determined by professional accreditation and/or licensing.
