Accreditation
Canadian universities are authorized to grant degrees through a charter issued by the provincial legislature. The University of Regina was granted its charter on July 1, 1974, through the University of Regina Act, making it a recognized degree-granting institution. The U of R is authorized to offer certificates, diplomas, and degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels.
In Canada, there is no national or provincial accreditation system like the voluntary system in the United States. However, professional organizations accredit specific degree programs in fields such as medicine and engineering.
All universities and colleges authorized by a charter are members of Universities Canada. The University of Regina is a member in good standing with this organization and is also a full member of the Association of Registrars Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC) and American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO).
