New transfer agreements provide pathway for Lakeland College graduates to get a U of R education degree
Two new Transfer Credit Agreements are making it easier for Lakeland College human services graduates to earn their full Bachelor of Education degree in elementary teacher education through the University of Regina’s Faculty of Education.
“We are so pleased to have finalized these transfer agreements with the University of Regina,” says Janice Aughey, Lakeland’s dean of health, wellness and human services. “Students who come to us for our educational assistant and early childhood education programs have the exact qualities that would make them amazing teachers and educators in our school systems. They are compassionate, love working with children and are dedicated to inspiring a love of lifelong education in their students. Now, because of this partnership with the University of Regina, those students will be able to easily further their education. Our school systems and communities will be better for it.”
Lakeland graduates who have earned their early childhood education certificate or diploma, as well as those who earned their educational assistant certificate, are now eligible for block transfers to the University of Regina’s Bachelor of Education program. Students with a certificate will receive 15 credit hours towards their degree at the university, while those with a diploma will receive 30 credit hours.
“These Transfer Credit Agreements will provide a valuable mechanism for Lakeland College graduates to leverage their certificate or diploma towards the completion of a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Regina,” says Dr. James Nahachewsky, dean of the Faculty of Education at the U of R. “We look forward to welcoming Lakeland’s students who are interested in continuing their education and embarking on a career as elementary school teachers, a profession in high demand across Saskatchewan.”
Graduates who have completed Lakeland’s programs on or after April 30, 2023, are eligible for the block transfer.

About the University of Regina
2024 marks our 50th anniversary as an independent University (although our roots as Regina College date back more than a century!). As we celebrate our past, we work towards a future that is as limitless as the prairie horizon. We support the health and well-being of our 16,700 students and provide them with hands-on learning opportunities to develop career-ready graduates. Our research enterprise has grown to include 21 research centres and 12 Canada Research Chairs and brings in more than $51.2 million in funding annually. Our campuses are on Treaties 4 and 6 - the territories of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda peoples, and the homeland of the Michif/Métis nation. We seek to grow our relationships with Indigenous communities to build a more inclusive future.
Let's go far, together.
