Facilities

Our facilities and department offices are located in the Riddell Centre and the Education Building. They include two fully-equipped theatres, which are available to rent, an art supply store, and the student-run Fifth Parallel Gallery. In addition, each department in Media, Art, and Performance has facilities that support student study and artistic practice.

Film Facilities and Equipment

Students in the Department of Film work with high-definition digital cameras (RED CAM, Sony A7, Black Magic), 16mm film cameras and a variety of audio, lighting, and grip equipment for filmmaking.

Facilities in the Department of Film include:

  • Multiple edit suites with Adobe Creative Cloud (PC and Mac)
  • 4K post-production suite with Adobe Creative Cloud and DaVinci Resolve
  • Production studio with lighting grid and floor-to-ceiling green screen
  • Digital post-audio suite and voice booth
  • Photography darkroom lab with 12 enlarger stations
  • Animation classroom with 2D camera stations
  • Stop motion animation production studio
  • Classrooms equipped with the latest in digital projection and audio technology
Music Facilities

Facilities in the Department of Music include:

  • Modern ensemble rehearsal room
  • Practice rooms

  • Classrooms equipped with the latest technology

Students and faculty also have access to performance spaces across campus, including the Recital Hall (seats 125) and Darke Hall (seats 500), located on the University’s College Avenue campus.

Additional resources include selected band, orchestral, and early music instruments, and a musical scores library.

Visual Arts Facilities

The Department of Visual Arts’ modern facilities include:

  • Spacious and open studios

  • Complete sculpture and wood working facilities
  • Gas, electric and outdoor kilns
  • A variety of printing presses
  • New media technology
  • A prominently located student-run art gallery

The Fifth Parallel Gallery is a professional exhibition space that is independently run by University of Regina students. Throughout the year, the gallery offers regular exhibitions of work produced by undergraduate and graduate students from across the University. Theatre Facilities

Facilities in the Department of Theatre include:

  • Spacious studios and workshops
  • A flexible 165-seat black box theatre (Shumiatcher Open Stage, also known as the Shu-Box)
  • A modern proscenium theatre equipped with a balcony and fly tower (University Theatre)
  • Scene and wardrobe shops that feature current, high quality equipment.

University Theatre and Bookings

The University Theatre, also known as the main stage, is a modern proscenium theatre with seating for up to 439. It is one of only two theatres in the city of Regina with a fly tower, which offers endless production possibilities.

It is a teaching theatre and features flexible stage and seating layouts, and professional quality sound and lighting systems.

It is used by the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance for classes, student recitals, guest lecturers and performers. The wider University community also makes use of the theatre for conferences, lectures and awards ceremonies. Community organizations book the theatre regularly for dance, theatre, and music performances and competitions.

The features of this theatre include:

  • Spacious lobby for post-show receptions

Onsite parking, including heated underground parking, is available.

Booking the University Theatre

To book the University Theatre, contact the University Theatres Coordinator at 306-585-5648.

University Theatre has a seating capacity of 396 to 425. The rates include general lighting, one podium with the use of a microphone and the use of two dressing rooms.

Ticket Printing

For both assigned seating and general admission tickets, the cost of printing tickets is:

  • $50 for the first performance
  • $30 for each additional performance

Schumiatcher Open Stage and Bookings

Located adjacent to the University Theatre, the Shumiatcher Open Stage provides a smaller venue with seating for 162. Also known as the Shu-Box, it is specially designed for a variety of performance configurations, from theatre-in-the-round to more traditional stage productions.

It is a teaching theatre and features flexible stage and seating layouts, and professional quality sound and lighting systems.

It is used by the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance for classes, student recitals, guest lecturers and performers. The wider University community also makes use of the theatre for conferences, lectures and awards ceremonies. Community organizations book the theatre regularly for dance, theatre, and music performances and competitions.

The Art Store

The Art Store is a small art supply store in the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance. We carry a wide variety of art supplies with a focus on painting, drawing, ceramics, print media and sculpture.

We carry Acrylic, Oil and Watercolour paints, along with a wide selection of brushes and mediums. We also readily stock an assortment of sketchbooks in a variety of sizes, along with drawing supplies such as Pencils, Charcoal, Pastels, Inks and more. We have an excellent selection of art papers, over 40 options! Best suited for a range of mediums, such as drawing, printmaking, watercolour and mixed media applications.

The Art Store is open to all current faculty, staff, and students on campus. First time visitors to the store should expect to provide staff or student ID.

Location

We are located in RC 022, which is in the lower level of the Riddell Centre. Use the double doors across from the Career Centre and take the elevator or stairs down one floor.
