Concussion Research Program
Dr. Neary is currently conducting research to investigate the pathophysiology of sport-induced concussion (mild traumatic brain injury) that is supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). The concussion research team is currently using near infrared spectroscopy (to examine cerebral oxygenation changes), transcranial Doppler (to measure cerebral blood flow), finger plethysmography using Finometer (non-invasive blood pressure measure). The specific focus of this research is to examine the apparent "neuroautonomic cardiovascular dysregulation" in concussion by examining the cerebral autoregulatory and cerebrovascular reactivity response.
