Julia Totosy de Zepetnek, Associate Professor in KHS and Adjunct Professor in Biology, directs the CArdiovascular MEtabolic Research Opportunities laboratories (CAMEROlabs). The main foci of research in CAMEROlabs are clarifying mechanisms that modulate the effects of physical activity and diet on the microbiota-gut-brain-axis in humans, with an emphasis on food intake regulation and energy balance. We explore associations between bacterial communities in the gut and food intake regulation (i.e., appetite hormone responsiveness, and sensitivity) across cohorts of age, sex, level of aerobic fitness, and degree of metabolic (dys)function. This work is funded by Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF).
