For the launch of the new Campion College Environmental Impact Scholarship, Dr. Sarah Abbott will lead us in a discussion and reflection on interrelations between humans, nonhumans, and the Earth. This is a talk is open to everyone from seasoned earth-conscious people to those beginning their journey of sustainability and climate change. Let's join together to question our relationship with the planet and human-caused environmental degradation. ABOUT OUR PRESENTER:
Dr. Sarah Abbott is an associate professor in the Department of Film at the University of Regina, teaching courses in film production, ethnographic practice, sentient ecologies, and climate change. Sarah received her interdisciplinary Doctor of Social Sciences degree from Royal Roads University in 2021 with a research focus on the sentient relations of trees involving public/multispecies ethnography, Indigenous research methodologies, ontological emergence, plant science, interspecies communication, and film. For her research, filmmaking, community, teaching and climate change work, Sarah has received several awards, television broadcasts, and funding support, including a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (2014-2017), the Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Award for Arts and Learning (2012), the Regina Mayor's Arts and Business Awards for Innovation (2009), the Dr. Garth Pickard Award for Post-Secondary Excellence in Education for Sustainable Development (2022) from the Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development in Saskatchewan (RCE Saskatchewan), an acknowledged RCE of the United Nations University. www.sarahabbott.ca
