Facts and Statistics

  3. Facts and Statistics

The Office of Institutional Research provides reports and statistical data to inform the University’s  business decision making and research initiatives. We produce some reports annually, others each term, and still others on an ad hoc basis. Many of the data reports we produce are submitted to official reporting offices such as Statistics Canada and Saskatchewan's Ministry of Advanced Education. As well, we endeavor to submit information about our students and our school to international rankings administrators.

Registration Statistics & Supplemental Reports

REMINDER: Use Fall Registration Statistics in Year-over-Year Comparisons

Registration Statistics

These are the most anticipated statistics for the University. The reports contain both headcount and credit hour information and represent in-progress management tools. Three reports are produced for the Fall and Winter semesters:

  • As of the day prior to the first day of the semester
  • As of the last day of the 50% tuition refund date
  • On the last day of lectures for that semester

Student Headcounts

We encourage using statistics from this report for most inquiries. These reports are based on Student Counts for Universities Canada [formerly the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC)] National Fall Count Data, which are student headcounts at our Fall Census Date, at the end of the fourth week of classes.

More detailed demographic data, also as of our Fall Census Dates, are available in our Fall Supplemental Reports.

About the Reports

These are as of date counts; actual enrolments may increase slightly as late registration information is added. Students counted are those registered in the Fall Term for one or more credits towards a University of Regina Degree, Certificate or Diploma. Graduate students maintain status while engaged in thesis work.

Tuition Fees and Living Costs

Tuition - Comparatives and Affordability

This Item for Information for the Board of Governors addresses the relevant factors that must be provided as part of a proposal to the Board for changes to tuition.

These elements are being provided in advance of the full budget and tuition Decision Item (in April), to allow timely consideration of the tuition policy environment before specific trade-offs need to be made in the budget process.

TLAC Criteria

Tuition and Living Costs for Full Time Students are reported to Statistics Canada annually. At the University of Regina, this report is prepared by OIR using the following criteria:

Undergraduate Tuition Fees

This refers only to the cost of tuition fees for full-time students and does not include additional fees for materials or equipment. The U of R defines these students as full-course load students. Although tuition fees can be reported on any basis, tables produced by Statistics Canada reflect an academic year of two semesters (eight months) or 30 credits in order to create a basis for comparison with other Canadian institutions.

Graduate Tuition Fees

This refers only to the cost of full-time graduate tuition. Additional fees such as materials and equipment are not included. When reporting Tuition & Living Accommodation Costs to Statistics Canada, the University of Regina defines this as 18 credit hours per two semesters.

Faculty and Staff

Workforce Demographics Report

The 2023-24 Workforce Demographics (PDF) report is compiled by the University's Human Resources department. This new report -- and subsequent versions going forward -- incorporates information previously within the Academic Workforce Demographics Report. The updated Workforce Demographics Report is generated annually and captures workforce data August 1 to July 31, and contains statistics about our staff diversity, age, length of service, compensation and retirements.

Disclosure of Employment Income over $100,000

In the interest of transparency and in alignment with other publicly funded Saskatchewan organizations, the University of Regina made disclosures of employee salaries above $100,000 publicly available on its website, beginning in summer 2018.

The University publishes the declaration of employment income of $100,000 or more (PDF), as reported on T4 slips, annually in April. This listing may exclude certain salaries of $100,000 or greater where such disclosure could threaten the safety of an individual or their family.
