Internal Scholarships
The Dr. Morris Shumiatcher Graduate Scholarship in English was established as a tribute to the life of Dr. Morris C. Shumiatcher, O.C., S.O.M., Q.C., B.A., LL.M., and S.J.D., and to recognize a long-time Regina lawyer, intellectual, philanthropist writer, who passed away in 2004. The scholarship will provide funding support to a University of Regina MA or PhD candidate in English with a preference given to those who have participated in University debate competitions.
Eligibility
The scholarship will be awarded to a University of Regina graduate student who meets the following criteria:
- Accepted as a fully-qualified graduate student;
- Pursuing a Master's or PhD degree in English;
- Minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 80%;
- Must be registered full-time (minimum six credit hours) in the semester the award is presented; and
- Preference will be given to students who have participated in University debate competitions.
NOTE: To be paid out over two semesters if fully eligible.
Application Information
In addition, students will need to upload the following:
- One page document outlining involvement in university debate (if applicable); and
- UP TO DATE Transcripts, which include CURRENT SEMESTER REGISTRATION. University of Regina Unofficial Transcript titled ‘Unofficial Transcript' found in UR Self Service OR University of Regina Official Transcript from MyCreds. Please refer to the MyCreds | MesCertif learner FAQs for more information on fees and how to register.
IMPORTANT: If you are an entrance student with no grades yet at the U of R, in addition to the unofficial transcript found in UR Self Service or the official transcript from MyCreds, you MUST also provide a copy of your last institution transcript along with the grading key in order to be considered. You must combine these documents into one and upload them.
All of these items are needed for an application to be considered complete.
