The ACUFC French as a Second Language (FLS) Graduate Scholarship was established in 2025 to encourage English-speaking students to pursue their postsecondary studies in their second official language, in this case French, to help them in their efforts to learn, use and improve their French-language skills, and to expand their understanding of Francophone culture. The aim is to increase bilingualism among young English-speaking Canadians.

Eligibility

The award will be awarded to a University of Regina graduate student who meets the following criteria:
- Completed their undergraduate degree in an English or non-official language (neither French nor English) institution, and graduated from said institution;
- At least 50% of their courses and participate in related activities (placement and training activities in the community) in French;
- Is registered and remains registered in at least 6 credit hours in the semester the award is presented;
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
- Special consideration will be given to students facing financial challenges, those who come from under-represented groups and are the first generation in their family to pursue college or university level studies.

Application Information

In addition, students will need to upload the following:
- one page written statement demonstrating financial need. Tell us your story as to WHY or the nature of your financial need.
- UP TO DATE Transcripts, which include CURRENT SEMESTER REGISTRATION. University of Regina Unofficial Transcript titled ‘Unofficial Transcript' found in UR Self Service OR University of Regina Official Transcript from MyCreds. Please refer to the MyCreds | MesCertif learner FAQs for more information on fees and how to register.
IMPORTANT: If you are an entrance student with no grades yet at the U of R, in addition to the unofficial transcript found in UR Self Service or the official transcript from MyCreds, you MUST also provide a copy of your last institution transcript along with the grading key in order to be considered. You must combine these documents into one and upload them.
