Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor's Indigenous Scholarship

The Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor Indigenous Scholarship is a $20,000 scholarship that will be awarded annually on the basis of academic excellence to a First Nations/Métis/Inuit student, or split between deserving candidates, who are pursuing graduate or post-graduate studies in any field at the University of Saskatchewan or University of Regina.

Eligibility

Applicant must:

  • be First Nations, Métis or Inuit;
  • have graduated from a Saskatchewan university;
  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • reside in Saskatchewan for the duration of their graduate or post-graduate studies. (Any research involving out-of-province fieldwork is only permitted by maintaining a principal residence in Saskatchewan.);
  • have an undergraduate degree in any discipline (at the time of commencement of the scholarship);
  • have applied for admission or be enrolled in graduate or post-graduate studies at an accredited Saskatchewan university for the upcoming year;
  • have applied for a thesis or non-thesis (project-based) program. (Note – course-based programs are not eligible.);
  • preference (added points) will be given to students in fields of study that support Saskatchewan’s Growth Plan and addresses complex challenges that impact the citizens of Saskatchewan; and
  • preference (added points) will be given to applicants who are in the early stage of their degree or have not received other substantial awards, the values of which, are aligned with the national standards of the Tri-Council Canada Graduate Scholarships.

Application Information

The application deadline is February 28 of each year. Information, including the application form and required documentation, is available on the Saskatchewan Ministry of Advanced Education’s website. 

In addition to the completed application form, applicants must provide the following documents:

  • a one-page outline of their thesis or project topic or area of major research they intend to pursue for their graduate or post-graduate studies;
  • official transcripts from ALL universities attended, including transcripts where they received transfer credit;
  • two signed Letter of Reference Forms (one for each reference) along with two letters of reference; and
  • the completed application form to the Saskatchewan university where they have applied for graduate or post-graduate studies.

All the required documents and the completed application form are to be submitted to the Saskatchewan university that the applicant is enrolled for their graduate or post-graduate studies:
