I am interested, but I'm unsure how to get involved.
Entrepreneurship can be scary! It is a bold move to raise your hand and share an idea. Remember, failure is very common and beneficial for long term success in entrepreneurial endeavors. The iterative approach to startups and new ventures encourages failures because they help us grow.
I study a subject that is not obviously related to entrepreneurship, can I still participate?

YES. People studying social sciences, arts, theatre, education, social work, nursing, and other areas are well suited to be involved!

People assume that entrepreneurship and innovation programs at GATE are for business, engineers, or science students, but GATE programs, and entrepreneurship are for everyone. Broadly, any student that has an excellent ability to communicate, tell stories, define problems, improve processes, understand customers, think creatively and view issues from a unique lens has potential for entrepreneurship and innovation.

I want to be involved, but I do not know anyone else and I'm new to entreneurship. How can I meet people with mutual interests in entrepreneurship?
Ashley and Hannah are your initial partners in your personal development in the entrepreneurship space and are happy to share resources and make introductions to industry, other students, or professors. Reach out to us with any questions!
How much time do I have to commit to be apart of the GATE Centre?

A little, or a lot. GATE will be offering a variety of events, summits and initiatives that will have a range of time requirements that will work for your schedule.

The great things about pursuing entrepreneurships and startups, is you define your job and your responsibilities so you can create a schedule that works for you! People with a commitment to their studies, responsibilities to family, or even another job can commit however much time they like.

What is a Reverse Career Fair?
The reverse career fair is an innovative twist on the traditional career fair model. Students set up booths and industry professionals visit the booths to learn about each student and network. This is “reverse” of the traditional career fair where students approach a company to hear more.
What is the Startup Bootcamp?
Students will be introduced to the innovation ecosystem, build foundational knowledge of startups and create business plans to pitch their ideas to industry leaders. With industry personnel involved, the Startup Bootcamp enables networking within the U of R community, breaking down silos between various faculties and introducing students to innovative startup organizations.
What skills can I learn from GATE programming?
There are many skills that entrepreneurs need to be successful that GATE programming aims to build. For example, public speaking, team building, leadership, networking, business management, financial planning, listening, research, critical thinking. There are many skills you will learn because as entrepreneurs you will be required to fulfill many tasks.
Can I benefit from GATE programming if I do not want to do entrepreneurship?
YES. We have professional development programming and broad training opportunities that can support careers in the public service, or private sector. Even entrepreneurship and innovation programming can help your career. Public speaking, problem solving, team building, communication, creative thinking, and other skills related to entrepreneurship will improve your professional prospects.
