Newly Admitted

Congratulations! You are joining more than 2,400 graduate students in the pursuit of graduate education. This page is meant to guide you through the initial steps after you have received acceptance to a program. The Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research welcomes you. The following steps will help guide you as you prepare to study at the University of Regina.

As of January 22, 2025, international students who are fully accepted to graduate programs are required to have a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) before applying for a study permit.

Once an offer of admission is accepted, the University of Regina will request a PAL on the student's behalf. The Government of Saskatchewan will issue a PAL through an automated system to the student's official uregina.ca email address, which will notify the student when their PAL is available. An email from MyCredsTM (noreply@mycreds.ca) will then direct you to download your unique PAL to your device. The PAL must be included with your study permit application.

Please note that PALs expire on January 21st of each year. It is important students apply for their study permit as soon as possible after receiving their PAL.

It is very important to ensure that you have access to the email address you used to apply to the U of R, as this address will be the email used to issue your PAL.

Please see UR International’s site for more information.

Step 1 - Acceptance

You need to check to see if you are "Conditionally Accepted" or "Unconditionally Accepted." If you are conditionally accepted you still have some work to do before you can register for classes. Please follow the instructions in your letter and portal.

Step 2 - Study Permit (International Students)

If you are an international student, apply for your student visa and study permit as soon as possible. UR International is a great support for international students. They can help you with travel documents, visas, health insurance and employment rules in Canada.

Step 3 - Housing

You will want to find a place to live in Regina. We have five residences on campus to choose from. This includes mature student housing options. There are also rental options close to campus. You can also look at websites like Kijiji, Facebook MarketplaceUsedRegina or URSU Classified to see what is available.

Step 4 - Registration

All students need to register, even those in research programs. Learn more about registering for your classes, when they start, and how much it costs.

Step 5 - Funding

Check out our scholarships and awards. There is a competition each term and the deadline is typically the end of September, January and May.

Step 6 - Orientation

Sign up for FGSR's orientation. Some faculties have their own orientations, so watch out for those as well.
This has been a wonderful curve in my career. Each and every person starting from my supervisor, academic co-ordinator tour course teacher has supported me with their warm gesture that has comforted to perform well.  Looking forward to gathering more experience and exciting learning from my peers and faculties!
