Past Chancellor's Events
On November 6, 2024, the Chancellor's Community presented A Taste of Research: Enduring Discoveries as part of the University of Regina's 50th anniversary celebrations. This free, public event featured engaging, bite-sized research presentations providing an opportunity to hear from and interact with leading researchers from the U of R.
This year's event included presentations by: Dr. Heather Hadjistavropoulos (Professor, Psychology); Dr. Shannon Holmes (Associate Professor, Faculty of Media, Art & Performance); Dr. Peter Leavitt (Canada Research Chair in Environmental Change and Society); Dr. Zisis Papandreou (Professor, Faculty of Science; Department Head, Physics); Kwaku Ayisi (PhD Candidate, Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy; 2022 3MT winner); Andy McLennan (PhD Candidate, Faculty of Arts; 2023 3MT winner); and Michael Mensah (PhD Candidate, Department of Biology; 2024 3MT National winner).
Hosted by Chancellor Pam Klein, and emceed by Dr. Aziz Douai, Dean, Graduate Studies and Research, the evening also featured a selection of student research poster presentations, and a pre-lecture reception for researchers and invited guests.
Campus was buzzing with activity during welcome week! September 3 turned out to be a gorgeous evening for the Chancellor's inaugural BBQ to warmly welcome new scholars and fellows into the Chancellor's Community! Members of the Chancellor's Community and University Leadership, Chancellor’s Scholars, Fellows and their family members enjoyed inspiring conversation and a delicious BBQ feast.
The Chancellor's Community 'Pioneers of Tomorrow' on April 17 was a night of innovation in water security and sustainability, geothermal energy production, and 3D print manufacturing. Guests, including Chancellor's Scholars Anneka McLaren and Lanea Lafontaine, connected with undergraduate engineering students on their final year 'capstone' projects and learned about advances being made in alternative safe drinking water systems for our communities, software apps that can improve communication for those with vocal and hearing impairments, and enhanced safety features for wheelchairs. After dinner, participants enjoyed a guided tour of Dr. Jinkai Xue’s Cold-Region Water Resource Recovery Laboratory and Dr. Mohammad Khondoker’s 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing Research Lab to learn about cutting-edge advances being made in water sustainability and 3D printers.
'Theatre of Dreams' was more than just a metaphor at our Chancellor's Community dinner and tour on February 13 - it was a heartfelt celebration of gratitude for our generous supporters and a chance for them to experience the remarkable talents of our gifted students, right here on campus.
The stage of our University Theatre transformed into a gourmet dining experience where guests were not only treated to a delicious meal but also to an enchanting performance by the University of Regina Chamber Singers, a production of sonnets by talented students from the University of Regina Theatre Department, and behind-the-scenes tours of our world-class Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance facilities at the University.
