This certificate program is designed for learners preparing for or already working in careers in administration. Students will improve their analytical skills, develop an understanding of organizational behaviour and explore the forces that shape management decisions and practices. Students will also broaden their perspectives, increase confidence in their abilities, and develop new approaches to old problems.
The certificates in Administration are a great way to sample some introductory business courses, get a start in university-level study, and gain knowledge and skills relevant to many work environments.
Choose how far you want to take your business education. Earn your certificate in Administration Level I in eight months to one year of part-time study. If you are looking for a full-time program, take the Certificate in Administration Level II.
The certificates in Administration can also be taken alongside programs in other faculties such as Arts, Kinesiology and Health Studies, Media, Art and Performance, and Engineering.

The Certificate in Administration Level I can stand alone. This five-course certificate is best suited to the part-time learner. This program allows students to attend classes in the evenings and still complete the credential within eight months to one year, depending on course availability.
The Certificate in Administration Level II helps learners build on the knowledge and skills gained in the Certificate in Administration Level I.
For students looking for a full-time program, the Certificate in Administration Level II can provide pathways for further study. The Level II certificate can be completed within one year (three semesters) full- time, or longer if taken part-time.
Students may choose to ladder into a longer program such as a diploma or degree by using the courses completed in the certificate toward the diploma or degree program requirements. If you are interested in the laddering option, seek advising early in your program.BUS 100 - Introduction to Business
This course will introduce students to the functional areas of business in a variety of organizations.
BUS 260 - Introduction to Organizational Behaviour
This introductory course addresses the basic concepts and processes of organizational behaviour. Topics include: individual level variables, such as perception, personality, attitudes, and motivation; interpersonal and group processes, such as communication, teams, leadership, and power; and organizational level factors such as organizational design, culture, and change.
BUS 205 - Management Communication
This course is designed to assist students to improve their skills and confidence as effective communicators in an organizational context. Students will explore the issues faced by organizations in communicating internally with employees and externally with diverse publics. The course will focus on both oral and written communication.
BUS 210 - Introduction to Marketing
This course presents the fundamentals of marketing theory and application. Starting at a societal level, it works through environmental scanning, explores the differences between consumer and business customer groups, followed with a strategic focus on segmentation, targeting and positioning. Tactical applications of the marketing mix are then addressed – product, price, place and promotion. Attention is also directed to ethical and legal considerations.
