It seems the University of Regina’s Dr. John Archer Library and Archives has taken the theme of this year’s Saskatchewan Library Week – Grow with Your Library – to the next level!

The Archer Library has been growing to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff – with easy access to the materials they need when they need them. Whether you’re diving into research or simply searching for a good read, the Archer Library is committed to helping you find it—even if it’s halfway around the world.

Introducing Rapido

In spring 2024, the Archer Library launched Rapido, a new interlibrary loan (ILL) system that opens the door to resources from more than 500 libraries worldwide—for free!

Follow along to learn how to use Rapido.

Step 1: Sign in and dive in

Log into your library account using your U of R username and password. Once you’re signed in, you can search for the materials you need in the Quick Find bar—just be sure to select “Beyond University of Regina” to explore external options.

Step 2: Find it, click it, get it

When you find what you’re looking for, click “Get it for me from other libraries.” You can choose either a physical or digital copy of your material. And if you’re short on time, there’s even an option to have a chapter, article or short section emailed to you—the average wait time for the emailed option is around 16 hours.

Step 3: Sit tight, your request is on the way

As expected, there will be a delivery time for physical items, which can take a minimum of 1-2 weeks, depending on where the material is coming from and other factors beyond the Archer Library’s control. You can track your order in your library account, and you’ll receive notifications with updates along the way.

Step 4: Ready, set, pick up!

You can collect your physical materials at the Archer Library Help Desk, or if you’re outside Regina, have them delivered to your home address. Loan periods for interlibrary loan materials are set by the lending library, typically lasting 4-6 weeks from the date they arrive at the Archer Library. You can monitor the loan period through your library account.

If you’re an alumni or community member feeling a bit green with envy over this fantastic service, don’t worry! Alumni and community members can still use Rapido for a fee—but that’s not the only service available to you.

Did you know you can access books from the Regina Public Library (RPL) at the U of R?

Regina Public Library

The Archer Library and Regina Public Library have teamed up to make your life easier than ever! In Spring 2023, the Archer Library made it possible to check out and return RPL materials right here at the U of R. Plus, you can search through the RPL’s catalogue on the Archer Library website.

About the University of Regina

2024 marks our 50th anniversary as an independent University (although our roots as Regina College date back more than a century!). As we celebrate our past, we work towards a future that is as limitless as the prairie horizon. We support the health and well-being of our 17,200 students and provide them with hands-on learning opportunities to develop career-ready graduates – more than 92,000 alumni enrich communities in Saskatchewan and around the globe. Our research enterprise has grown to 21 research centres and 9 Canada Research Chairs. Our campuses are on Treaties 4 and 6 - the territories of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda peoples, and the homeland of the Michif/Métis nation. We seek to grow our relationships with Indigenous communities to build a more inclusive future.

Let’s go far, together.
