Mathematics and Statistics
Diagnostic Tests
Are you ready for your first Mathematics courses?
- Has it been along time since you have taken the prerequisite for the course?
- Do you remember the mathematics courses you took in Grade 12?
Use these tests to assess your abilities.
The purpose of these diagnostic tests is to assist students and advisors with course selection, by helping to ensure that students start University Mathematics classes at the correct level.
These tests cannot be used as justification for a course override for enrolment in a higher level course.
If you require more in-depth review (and have elected not to enrol in Math 102), you should also consider working through a PreCalculus text.
The following are online open text (i.e. free) resources:
- Precalculus, 3rd Edition: https://www.stitz-zeager.com/
- Precalculus: An Investigation of Functions: https://www.opentextbookstore.com/precalc/
The following are relatively inexpensive PreCalculus books that can be ordered through online booksellers.
- Just-in-Time Algebra and Trigonometry for Calculus, by Mueller, Brent
- Schaum’s Outline of PreCalculus, by Safier
PMTH 091/092 Intermediate Algebra I and II
This test is to help students who need to take PMTH before attempting Calculus or Pre-Calculus classes.
While your score on one of these tests is a good indication of how well you might do in a class, it is of course not a guarantee of either your success or failure.
