Research
The members of the Department are active scholars for whom research occupies a significant portion of their academic work. Research activity distinguishes a university from a teaching college, and students benefit from direct contact with faculty who spend a part of their daily lives as practicing mathematicians, statisticians, or actuaries. By engaging in research, faculty members remain at the forefront of knowledge, passing that knowledge and the skills for knowledge creation to undergraduate and graduate students.
The research work of members of the Department is funded in part by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). In addition, the University of Regina is a member of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), one of three national research institutes devoted to mathematical science.
