The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has many scholarship opportunities available to undergraduate students. Below is a list of awards targeted specifically to students enrolled in programs offered by the Department.

Scholarships for Undergraduate Students
B'Nai Brith- M.D. Brownstein Scholarships
1 award ($1100)
Deadline 3 October (Fall) No application required
The scholarships will be awarded to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:
- Enrolled in the Faculty of Science
- Minimum undergraduate grade point average (UGPA) of 80%
- Successfully completed 53 credit hours
- Registered and remains registered in a minimum of 9 credit hours in the semester the scholarship is presented
- Preference will be given to a student with a declared Chemistry major
Canadian Society of Chemistry Silver Medal
2 awards (medal)
Deadline June (Summer) No application required
Each year, the CSC awards silver-plated medals to the top students at each Canadian university entering their final year of chemistry, biochemistry or related programs. One award is given for each program.
Dr. Allan Smith Chemistry Prize
1 award ($1000)
Deadline 3 October (Fall) No application required
The prize will be presented to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:
- Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in the Faculty of Science, with a major in Chemistry;
- Achieved the highest average of the combined courses: CHEM 210 and CHEM 215. One of the courses must have been successfully completed in the previous academic year;
- Successfully completed a minimum of 23 credit hours; and
- Is registered and remains registered in a minimum of 9 credit hours in the term the prize is presented.
SaskPower Award in Chemistry
1 award ($3000)
Deadline 3 October (Fall) Application required
The award will be presented to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:
- Enrolled in the Faculty of Science, majoring in Chemistry;
- Minimum Undergraduate Grade Point Average (UGPA) of 70%;
- Completed a minimum of 23 credit hours;
- Registered and remains registered in a minimum of 9 credit hours in the semester the award is presented
Notes:
- Preference will be given to students who self-declare as belonging to a diversity group, defined as Aboriginal, female, students with a disability, and/or visible minorities.
- Recipients of this award may have the opportunity to interview for potential work term placements or employment opportunities with SaskPower and consent to have their contact information shared with SaskPower for potential recruitment purposes.
Society of Chemical Industry Canadian Section, Merit Awards

Deadline 1 June (Summer) No application required
Awarded to the students in fields of chemistry or biochemistry either alone or combined with another major with the highest standing in the final year (minimum 75%).
The course must have been completed in the normal number of years.
Wallace McConnell Memorial Scholarship
1 award ($1100)
Deadline 3 October (Fall) No application required
This scholarship is awarded to the most outstanding student in Biochemistry who is completing third year.
Wascana Preceptory No. 51 Knights Templar Scholarship
1 award ($7,600; paid in 2 instalments of $3,800)
The scholarship will be awarded to a University of Regina undergraduate student who is:

Registered for full-time studies minimum of 12 credit hours

Completed a minimum of 54 credit hours

Saskatchewan High School graduate

Have maintained an UGPA of 80% or better, average based on all University of Regina courses taken, but when a course has been repeated, only the grade in the most recent approved attempt is used

Entering the third or fourth year of study in a program leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Indian Fine Arts, Theatre or Visual Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education or a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Biology, Chemistry or Computer Science

Statement of scholastic merit from a member of Faculty should be included with the application
Notes:
- Selection of the student is based on demonstrated good citizenship and involvement in family, school and community environments.
- To qualify for the second instalment the recipient must pass all courses and maintain a minimum of 80% average during the Fall semester of study.
Scholarships for Graduate Students
Edgar A. Wahn Scholarship
2 awards ($6375)
Eligible applicants would normally include, but not necessarily be limited to:
- Students in biology, chemistry & biochemistry, geography, geology, and environmental systems engineering;
- Full-time student pursuing environmental research;
- Must have a Cumulative Graduate point Average (CGPA) of 90%.
International Energy Agency (IEA) Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme Climate Change Graduate Travel Scholarship
2 awards ($7950)
The award will cover the cost of attending the bi-annual Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies Conference as well as other aspects of research in Climate Change at the University. To be eligible an applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in any Master's or Doctoral program at the University of Regina;
- Be pursuing research on climate change;
- Be a registered full-time student or registered for a minimum of three credit hours of thesis research in the semester the award is presented;
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 80%; and
- Has a paper or poster accepted in the Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies Conference, held bi-annually
- After travel, student must submit receipts providing proof of travel, such as, boarding pass, taxi/train fees, hotel, food receipts—at location of conference; students must submit all receipts to FGSR within one month of last day of event
R.A. Kelln - J. Neuhard Graduate Entrance Scholarship in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology Award
1 award ($2250)
The scholarship will be presented in the fall to a University of Regina graduate student who meets the following criteria:
- Entering (1st, 2nd or 3rd semester only), or in the first semester of study, of a graduate program in Biochemistry or in a Molecular Biology research theme in the Department of Biology;
- Minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 80% or equivalent; and
- Full-time student registered in the fall semester (fall or winter) the award is presented
Note: If the award is presented in the fall semester in a given year, then no award will be available for the following winter semester. Only one award will be presented on a yearly basis.
