If you’re aged 65 or older and currently registered for courses, you may be eligible for a waiver on tuition fees at the University of Regina. This waiver applies only to tuition, while any material fees, lab fees, student fees, or other course-related costs remain the student’s responsibility.

To apply for this waiver, complete the Seniors' Tuition Waiver Request Form (PDF) for each term you are registered in classes. Submit your completed form as early in the term as possible — requests must be received by the end of the term in which you are registered for your application to be processed.

Senior Tuition Waiver Frequently Asked Questions

Who may request a Seniors’ Tuition Waiver?
Anyone 65 years of age or older in the term of registration, may request a tuition waiver.
What does the waiver cover?
The waiver applies to tuition only. Students are responsible for any material fees, laboratory fees, student fees, and other course-related costs.
Why is the Seniors’ Tuition Waiver Request Form Required?
The Seniors’ Tuition Waiver Request Form helps determine if your registered courses meet the eligibility criteria for the tuition waiver each term. Due to specific course restrictions under the current policy, submitting this form every term ensures that your registration aligns with waiver qualifications. Once approved, your tuition waiver will appear in your UR Self-Service account.
Are there deadlines for submitting a Seniors’ Tuition Waiver Request Form?
Yes. We encourage all students submitting waiver requests to do so as early as possible each term. All requests must be received no later than the end of the term in which the courses are registered.
When will I be notified if my request qualifies for a tuition waiver?
You will be notified about your request within five business days. If the request qualifies, the tuition waiver will show up on your account after the end of the 50% refund period for the course.
Can a Seniors’ Tuition Waiver be requested if I want to audit a course?
Yes. The tuition waiver applies to registration as an audit or credit student in credit courses only.
What happens if I am registered in a course that does not qualify for a tuition waiver?
If you’re registered in a course that doesn’t qualify for a tuition waiver and choose to stay enrolled, you will need to pay tuition according to the standard policy. If you prefer to withdraw, you can do so in UR Self-Service or through your faculty or federated college office, with any applicable drop penalties applied as per standard policy. Note that the Registrar's Office does not process course withdrawals on behalf of students.
How will I be notified if my request qualifies for a tuition waiver?
A notification will be sent to your official @uregina.ca email address explaining the outcome of your request. Please be sure to check this email address regularly or contact the Registrar’s Office in person or at 306-585-4127.
I am a senior who previously benefited from a tuition waiver. What do I need to know?

Students who previously benefited from a tuition waiver for courses in their current program and were registered at the University prior to May 1, 2017 continue to be eligible for the tuition waiver until they complete the program, change programs, or withdraw from the program.

Please note the following important points:

  • all tuition waiver requests for audit courses will be considered, provided none of the above course restrictions apply to the audit course; and
  • all tuition waiver requests will be subject to the new restrictions if you complete your current program, change programs, or withdraw from the program you were registered in prior to May 1, 2017.
Who do I contact if I have questions about my request for the Seniors’ Tuition Waiver?

Please contact special.registration@uregina.ca, 306-585-4127, or come to the Registrar’s Office and Enrolment Services on the second floor of the Administration-Humanities Building (Room 210) and we will be happy to assist you.
