Holds

A hold is a restriction placed on a student’s UR Self-Service account that may:

  • indicate some type of academic tracking has been initiated
  • prevent class registration
  • prevent the release of transcripts
  • prevent a student from graduating
  • all of the above

Types of Holds

Conditions on Registration

  • There are conditions that must be verified or met prior to registration. 
  • Contact: The Academic Advising Office of your faculty, federated college, or academic unit.

Financial Hold

  • Depending on the amount, a student that has a tuition or fee balance owing will have restrictions on the release of transcripts and degree parchments or may have restrictions preventing class registration.

Admission Hold

  • There are documents or other requirements that must be received by the university prior to registration or release of transcripts.

Letter of Permission (LP) Hold

  • Does not restrict a student from engaging in any university activities (registration, transcripts, etc.). It is an indication that a student has an outstanding Letter of Permission to complete.
  • Contact: The Academic Adivisng Office of your faculty, federated college or academic unit.

Academic Hold

  • Applied to a student’s account when some type of academic action has been applied. Examples of academic holds are Requirement to Discontinue (RTD), Must Withdraw (MW), and Academic Probation.

Disciplinary Proceedings

  • In some cases, an academic hold will be applied if a student is under investigation for an act of Academic Misconduct. This type of hold is called a Disciplinary Proceedings Hold.
