CAMEROlabs
CArdiovascular MEtabolic Research Opportunities
The main foci of research in CAMEROlabs, directed by Dr. Julia Totosy de Zepetnek, are understanding the consequences of various nutrient and exercise loads on cardiometabolic health, fitness, food intake regulation and appetite sensitivity, as well as the role of the gut microbiota in health and in metabolic dysfunction (e.g., Type 2 Diabetes). The current goals of CAMEROlabs research are to: 1) gain a better understanding of the pathophysiology of disease (e.g., Type 2 Diabetes, Cystic Fibrosis), 2) determine the feasibility and efficacy of chronic disease management from both a lifestyle and pharmacological approach, and 3) explore factors associated with healthy aging, in the absence of disease.
PA-EPI Lab
Physical Activity Epidemiology
Epidemiology is the study of the distribution, determinants and deterrents of health, disease and injury in human populations. The mission of the PA-Epi Lab is to examine and monitor the frequency and patterns of physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviour (SB) in the population, identify determinants and deterrents to these behaviours, and investigate the relationships between PA and/or SB and health and disease. Through our research, public outreach activities and advocacy around issues related to PA, SB, fitness, obesity, and health we aim to contribute to public health interventions and ultimately to improved population health.
