Dr. Michael Dubnewick

Michael Dubnewick, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies. He was born and raised on Treaty 7 Territory in Calgary, and now resides in Treaty 4 Territory in Regina. He is a community-engaged narrative inquirer who works with various urban communities in the area of equitable recreation, sport, and wellness programming. His current SSHRC-SHRF funded research is a narrative inquiry into the experiences of Indigenous youth as they compose their lives as leaders within the Growing Young Movers (@gymovers) afterschool program. His recent work also includes research into the experiences of wellness practitioners as they work alongside people in precarious housing situations in food-based programming (i.e., community gardens). He teaches in the sport and recreation studies area. Woven alongside his work and into his classes are stories of his love for cooking, gardening, his wife Claire, and his cat and dog, Bella and Theo.
