Network Drives
- Network Drives that were in use before the move to M365 are still available,
- The existing network drive letters, such as T:\, O:\, L:\, P:\, etc., remain in place and regular backups of data continues.
- Pre-existing files and folders were moved over to new Windows servers.
- Access is through login on a UofR-owned managed computer or lab system, and drives will show in your folder list.
- On personal or unmanaged computers/devices, you need to map the new folders using CIFS.
- Set up access with CIFS on Windows: Technote 629
- Set up access with CIFS onMacOS Technote 630
NOTE: On unmanaged/other systems FILR, Webdrive, OES client, and Kanaka are no longer options for accessing network drives.
An update will be sent to managed computer systems over the network.
- This is to set up your system to access the new network drives, such as T:\
- It will prompt you to Reboot your system.
- As soon as you are able, please close all files and programs, and click 'Continue' to accept the reboot.
- This will ensure your system has disconnected from the current network drives and is set up to access the new network drives.
- Two new icons will be added to your desktop, that you will need in the morning (“Map New Drives” and “Map Old Drives”).
Before you leave work on your Scheduled Migration Day, please ensure you have closed any files on network drives.
- Starting at 8:00 AM the next day, you should see new network drive(s) in your folder lis.
- If you don't see a new folder path (ie: “T-Drive (\\ad.uregina.ca/uofr) (T:)) in your folder list, locate and double-click the new icon on your desktop "Map New Drives” to map with CIFS.
- Locate and double-click the new icon on your desktop "Map Old Drives”, this is required to add S: drive to run Caspur Reports, and will add your old T: drive as drive “X” in read-only mode.
NOTE: This is only temporary, until all drives have been moved to new servers.
- Items will be copied over to new Windows file servers.
- You will not have access to T: drive folders for a specified amount of time.
- You can use FILR to access files (read-only) during your scheduled migration window.
- During the migration on UofR-owned managed computer systems, your access to the new folders will be updated through Zenworks/InTune (you may need to accept a bundle, more info will be provided).
- You will need to use CIFS to map other drives, as OES will be disabled.
- Folders will show with a slightly different path but drive letters will be the same.
- OLD “Vol2(\\compserv.cc.uregina.ca)(T:)”, NEW “T-Drive(\\ad.uregina.ca\uofr)(T:)”
- If you are not seeing new network folders, double-click desktop icon “Map New Drives”
- To view old drives (read only mode) double-click desktop icon “Map Old Drives”. An alternate drive letter will be used (ie: T: will show up as X:).
- Utilize network drives such as T:/ for archival purposes and historical data.
- Files are static and not available for concurrent collaboration like OneDrive or Teams.
