Microsoft Authenticator for Students

Authenticator Setup Instructions

Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) will be Mandatory for all registered Student M365 Accounts, October 15, 2024.

*You need a mobile device to setup MFA Authenticator.

1. First you need to enroll your Microsoft account in MFA.
  1. Go to the enrollment portal at https://novapp.cc.uregina.ca/perl/mfa.cgi
  2. Login with your uregina Microsoft account username and usual password (*hint: you use your username and password when signing into UR Courses)
  3. Click the "Enroll in MFA" button, and wait for a red notice across the top "Your request was submitted successfully" (may take 15 seconds or so).
2. Once enrolled through the University portal, you need to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app on your Mobile Device.
  1. Go to https://portal.office.com on a web browser on your device (computer, laptop, tablet, mobile device, etc.).
  2. Sign in to your uregina Microsoft account username@uregina.ca and current password.
  3. You will then be prompted to download the MS Authenticator app on your mobile device, finish the setup, and test.

Always setup TWO Methods of MFA with Authenticator and your Mobile Device.

How do I set up multiple authentication device methods for MFA? MFA methods available are the MS Authenticator app and SMS text messaging - if one is not available the other can be used.

Do I need Data or Internet to use the Authenticator app?

Your device needs to have WiFi internet or mobile data to initially install the Microsoft Authenticator app and add the UofR account to the Microsoft Authenticator app.
