Surveys
Conducting Surveys
The University of Regina participates in a number of surveys that are intended to collect data about its students, alumni, faculty and staff for administrative, planning and reporting purposes. The list to the left identifies the most recognizable surveys the University of Regina participates in; by clicking on the link you will find the most recent reports summarizing key information garnered from the surveys.
Surveys are a way to share students' voices with the University and the Community.
Planning a Survey
Any group or individual (internal or external) wishing to conduct a survey that is within the scope of the University's Surveys Policy is required to submit a proposal to the Survey Management Committee and seek permission to proceed. To ensure all of the required information is included in the proposal, please complete the Survey Application Form (PDF) and submit it to the Survey Management Committee.
It is important to note that the Office of Institutional Research does not conduct surveys on behalf of any internal or external group or individual.
To find out about current or future surveys which may impact your survey schedule, for more information about planning your survey, or to submit an application to the Survey Management Committee, please contact the Survey Committee Coordinator, Constance Hammermeister.
Survey Software (including Qualtrics)
The survey policy imposes no specific choice of the platform used to conduct an approved survey. The survey sponsor is wholly responsible for selection and operation of a survey platform.
However, the University of Regina has an institutional license for Qualtrics - a web-based survey software that offers many advanced, user-friendly features. Thus Qualtrics will be a preferred option for most survey sponsors. All employees and students of the University of Regina have unlimited use of Qualtrics for teaching, learning and research. Commercial use of the system, including sponsored research, is not permitted.
Information Services provides technical information on Qualtrics, including log in instructions.
The Archer Library provides learning resources for using Qualtrics, and survey design.
Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey (CGPSS)
U of R students participated in the Canadian Graduate and Professional Survey (CGPSS) early in 2022, and have taken part every third year since 2007. The survey results provide a wealth of information about graduate student satisfaction and experiences.
In 2010 more than 38,000 graduate students participated at 38 universities across Canada. Since then that number has increased to 50 universities with over 63,000 graduate students participating from across Canada.

Provincial Surveys and Reports
The Saskatchewan Government, specifically the Ministry of Advanced Education, has a vested interest in learning about students who attend post-secondary education institutions within the Province.
Occasionally, the Ministry initiates surveys to learn about specific groups of students, graduates, and potential students. Surveys including these groups from the University of Regina are captured here.
Post Secondary Education Indicators Project
Saskatchewan's post-secondary institutions and the Ministry of Advanced Education are working together to develop and implement the Post-Secondary Education Indicators Project to collect, analyze and report sector-wide post-secondary data.
Along with the ministry, the project is led by the province's four public credential-granting institutions: the University of Saskatchewan, University of Regina, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, and Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT). While the majority of students take their classes on the main campuses of these four institutions, data also includes programming offered at Saskatchewan's federated and regional colleges, and at Dumont Technical Institute. Reports from the project cover all students enrolled in credentialed programming (i.e. degree, diploma or certificate programs) through the province's public post-secondary institutions.

Post-Secondary Graduate Students Surveys
Approximately every four years, Saskatchewan's Ministry of Advanced Education conducts a study of the province’s post-secondary graduates two years after they have completed their studies. The purpose of the survey is to gather information about Saskatchewan graduates’ perceptions and experiences. Information is collected on graduates’ level of satisfaction with their education, sources of financing for their education, level of education-related debt, and pre-and post-graduate mobility, as well as their education and employment outcomes.
2022 Survey of 2019 Grads
The Saskatchewan Ministry of Advanced Education (the Ministry), along with the University of Regina, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT), Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC), Métis Institutions, and Regional Colleges commissioned a research project to learn about graduates' level of satisfaction with their education.
Early Leavers Survey
What is an Early Leaver? Students or potential students who were registered at a post-secondary institution but did not complete their program.
The Ministry of Advanced Education wondered if they could learn more about the reasons these individuals didn't return to their post-secondary studies, and contracted Prairie Research Associates (PRA) Inc., an independent research firm, to develop and conduct this study. The participants in this survey were registered at a post-secondary institution within Saskatchewan in 2015-16, but didn't return to that institution in 2016-17. This was the first survey of this kind done province-wide. From mid December 2018 to early March 2019, individuals were surveyed on-line and by telephone.
The resulting report, Saskatchewan Post-Secondary Early Leavers is available
