The Gaia Power’s Samit Sharma Scholarship for Graduate Engineering and Applied Science was established in 2021 to support a graduate student studying full-time in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. Samit Sharma, a University of Regina alumnus, came to Canada from India in 1996 after getting a scholarship for enrollment as a graduate engineering student, in the Industrial Systems program under Dr. Bhole. Mr. Sharma is very grateful for the warm welcome provided to him by the residents of Saskatchewan and has fondest memories of these formative years. After working a few years, he enrolled at Queen’s University for an MBA where he won the first prize of Queen’s MBA Entrepreneurial Award. The very next day following his graduation, he founded Gaia Power to develop renewable power projects. Some of these renewable power projects are operating in Saskatchewan and assisting provincial efforts in climate change mitigation. Gaia Power and Samit Sharma would like to support a graduate engineering student at the University of Regina in an area of important relevance to an engineering industry issue in Saskatchewan or Canada. The Donor hopes the endeavor will lead to closer collaboration of industry and academia research, increase employability of student in the relevant research area, and achieve the social objective of service to Canadian society.
