Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Welcome - Bienvenue!

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Office celebrates the diversity of the University of Regina campus community and is a space where we model and advocate for Equity and Inclusion.

We view Diversity as a strength and as an essential component of academic excellence.

The Mandate of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Office aligns with University of Regina’s strategic plan,  All Our Relations, ‘ kahkiyaw kiwâhkômâkaninawak’ and  is founded on the institution’s core values of Mutual Respect, Integrity and Honesty.

The University’s leadership team and the campus community are dedicated to actively cultivating and collaborating on EDI initiatives to make the campus a welcoming, equitable and inclusive space for all members.

What Equity, Diversity and Inclusion means for us:

  • Equity: The promotion of fairness and justice for all in the context of the systemic and structural inequities.
  • Diversity: Diversity includes all intersectional identities; visible and invisible. Diversity includes and is not limited to ethnicity, cultural groups, abilities, socio-economic status, political groups, diverse religious and personal beliefs, sexual and gender identities.
  • Inclusion: Removal of barriers, both structural and systemic, enabling all members on campus to fully engage and participate in campus activities, fostering a sense of belonging and value.

Diversity Calendar Resources

October Resources

October marks the Healthy Workplace Month and reminds us to pause amid our busy lives and focus on social connections, taking care of ourselves and strengthening resilience. A healthy workplace is not only safe but also free from bullying. We encourage everyone to raise awareness and act against workplace bullying, a global issue that affects many. Moreover, healthy workplaces celebrate diverse social identities, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds. In honor of Women’s History Month, we recognize the significant contributions women have made throughout history while also addressing the ongoing challenges they face today.

September Resources

As we begin a new academic year, we are reminded of the privilege of being part of this dynamic learning community. Every opportunity to learn also expands our freedoms and rights. International Literacy Day, celebrated on September 8, highlights the critical role literacy plays in acquiring knowledge and fostering a culture of peace and respect. This year’s theme, "Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace," highlights the importance of literacy in building a more harmonious world.

As we reflect on the theme of peace, we recognize two other significant observances: the International Day of Peace and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Addressing historical and ongoing injustices requires committed and thoughtful action. We honor those who have courageously worked to end conflict and advance peace. Learn how you can contribute to peace-building efforts.

August Resources

As the University of Regina celebrates its 50th anniversary, we also celebrate the nearly 17,000 students on campus. The University of Regina serves as a space where young minds are nurtured and empowered to thrive, and where we celebrate the achievements of our students.

International Youth Day recognizes the progress made by young people in the digital world. While acknowledging progress, we are also aware of the many challenges young people face. International Overdose Awareness Day highlights one such challenge.

Black Photovoice Exhibition

The exhibition was an initiative of the Black Social Workers' Association of Saskatchewan. The theme highlighted how Black students at the University of Saskatchewan and the Black community of Saskatchewan embraced joy and wellness into their lives. The University of Regina was thrilled to display the exhibition in March 2024 at the U of R campus. The project was supported and funded by the USASK Student Wellness Centre, Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan, and SaskCulture.
