Research Interests

Christine's research is primarily focused on how immigrant and refugee teachers and student teachers experience the disjuncture between the westernized dominant discourse of early childhood education and their own culturally-constructed knowledges, beliefs, and values. Most recently, Christine has been part of a team researching the ways in which globalization and colonization have influenced the inclusion or exclusion of local, indigenous knowledges and practices in the context of teacher education in Canada, Colombia, and Namibia. Her other research interests include ethnography, professional identity construction, instructional strategies, teacher beliefs, immigrant/refugee families’ engagement in early childhood settings, cross-cultural play, and parent-child interactions.
