The Hill Business Students Society will be participating in the “5 Days for the Homeless” campaign for the tenth year. 5 Days for the Homeless is a national campaign that takes place across Canadian universities over a five day and night period. The campaign begins at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17th and concludes at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22nd. Five University of Regina students will spend five days and nights experiencing temporary homelessness. During this week, participants forgo the use of common necessities such as showering, basic grooming and shelter. The food that is consumed by the participants must be donated to them by the public.
The mission of the 5 Days for the Homeless campaign is to raise awareness about homelessness in Regina and collect monetary donations for Carmichael Outreach. In 2018, the group raised $54,859, which was the highest 5 Days total of all participating universities (ever)!
This year's participants include:
Ryan Selinger from the Faculty of Business
Jordan Tholl from the Faculty of Business
Alice Charles from the Faculty of Arts, Human Justice
Emily Huzil from the Faculty of Social Work, Indigenous Social Work
Hailey Unrau from the Faculty of Nursing
The co-chair for 5 Days are Kelly Phiri, Aubrie Houk and Caitlyn Bilan.
There will be a number of fundraisers taking place throughout the course of the week including a trivia night at the Owl, burger fundraiser, Wheelhouse rides, downtown donation day and lip sync battle. Be sure to come out and show the students your support!
