5 Days for the Homeless Charity Event

The Hill Business Students Society will be participating in the “5 Days for the Homeless” campaign for the seventh year. 5 Days for the Homeless is a national campaign that takes place across Canadian universities over a five day and night period. The campaign begins at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6th and concludes at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11th. Five University of Regina students will spend five days and nights experiencing temporary homelessness. During this week, participants forgo the use of common necessities such as showering, basic grooming and shelter. The food that is consumed by the participants must be donated to them by the public.

The mission of the 5 Days for the Homeless campaign is to raise awareness about homelessness in Regina and collect monetary donations for Carmichael Outreach. In 2015, they had a goal to raise $26,000 for Carmichael Outreach, and they were able to surpass their goal and raise over $30,000!! In 2016, they are determined to make the campaign the biggest success yet and top their donations from the previous year. Their goal is to raise $35,000!!!

Here is the breakdown of events happening throughout the week:

Sunday, March 6th: Kick-off Day

- University students, participants and volunteers will be at the Regina Pats Game (4:00 p.m. vs. Brandon Wheat Kings)

Monday, March 7th: Friends of 5 Days

- Come-and-go social event for friends and family at the Crave Kitchen and Wine Bar (7:00 p.m.)

Tuesday, March 8th: Concert at the Owl

- Performances by The Pistolwhips and The Andino Suns (7:00 p.m.)

Wednesday, March 9th: Rib Night

- Meal fundraiser at the Pressbox (5:00 p.m.)

Thursday, March 10th: Downtown Donation Day

- Accepting donations on Scarth Street (11:30 a.m.)

Lip Sync Battle at the Owl

- Come out and sing your support (7:00 p.m.)

Friday, March 11th: Closing Press Conference at the University

- Please join us in the Riddell Centre crush area for the closing ceremonies (1:00 p.m.)
