Dean Erin Olford has invited North Central Family Centre Volunteer Doug McNair to present to faculty, staff and students on “Social Enterprise: The Business of Caring”.

Social Enterprise: The Business of Caring
Doug has been championing the social enterprise model and applying his past business experience to help North Central Family Centre move quickly from a small non-profit to a sustainable model. Receiving $8.5M in grants for a rapid affordable housing project accelerated the need.  Its not easy given limited social enterprise experience and knowledge and the limited breadth of resources attracted to the community based and non-profit sector.  This sector needs to attract, develop and acquire the necessary business and financial skills for these organizations to grow, plan, and develop their own sources of revenues.  Doug will speak of this social enterprise journey, of the capacity, knowledge and experience gaps, and the role of the business schools in addressing the needs of the sector.

Doug McNair is a MBA graduate from the Ivey School of Business, and established McNair Business Development Inc, a regional consulting firm in 1996.  Recently Doug has reduced his consulting obligations to a few long-term clients.  In the last few years, as a volunteer, Doug has been spending the majority of his time working on a significant community initiative with North Central Family Centre.  Doug is Chair of the Strategic Advisory Committee for NCFC, reporting to the board, and Chair of the Hopes and Dreams Campaign.  See ncfc.ca and hopesanddreams.ca   Doug is also a Hope Air Volunteer pilot and with his wife Shanna,  enjoys spending time with their kids and grandkids and at their Buffalo Pound cottage.  He also enjoys fitness and travel.
