The Accounting Fellowship Program welcomes 7 new members this year, bringing the group to a total of 472 members. Due to COVID, no banquet was held, but we will recognize and celebrate students on social media in the coming weeks and they will be invited to a future banquet.

The Accounting Fellowship Program recognizes the academic accomplishments of accounting students. Membership in the Accounting Fellowship Program is recognized by the accounting community as a significant accomplishment achieved only by the best accounting students. Students in the program have achieved a grade point average of 80% or more.

In October the Hill and Levene Schools launched our new strategic plan for 2021-2025. Our plan reflects extensive consultation (with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders) over more than a six month period.

As a CTL Scholar, Wallace has been recognized as an outstanding faculty member who demonstrates a strong commitment to teaching and learning in his practice as well as the willingness to promote teaching and learning excellence in our Faculty and across the institution.

Congratulations to Hill alumna Robyn Ham who was selected as a recipient of the 2020 Canada’s Volunteer Awards (CVAs) for the Emerging Leader Award in the region of Prairies. Read more here.

The Enactus Regina group and the Hill and Levene Schools of Business, in partnership with the Prince’s Trust Charity, again hosted the Operation Entrepreneur (OE West) program in August. A huge shout out to Emma Chuckry, Student Project Manager for Enactus Regina and Dr. Lisa Watson, Faculty Advisor for their leadership and commitment. A special thank-you to Dr. Wallace Lockhart, Dr. Peter Moroz, Lee Elliott, Randy Linton and Bruce Anderson for providing expert instructions during the program.

Congratulations to Hill alumnus Doug McKillop (BAdmin ’76), the 2021 recipient of the Alumni Crowning Achievement Award for Outstanding Service (Dr. Robert and Norma Ferguson Award). Doug has had a long and distinguished career in the accounting profession and has been a tireless community volunteer, especially for the University of Regina Rams football club, and as a member of Leaders Council. Campbell photo Dr. Shelagh Campbell has been appointed to the Unifor Public Review Board – the national body constituted under the constitutions that hears appeals of members’ disputes over decisions made by governing bodies in the union. Shelagh joins fellow members Gregor Murray, Canadian Research Chair in Globalization and Work; Dr. Kumar Pradeep, Professor Emeritus of Queen’s University; and Cara Zwibel, Director of Fundamental Freedoms Programs at the Canadian Civil Liberties Association.

Congratulations to Dr. Gordon Pennycook who is the recipient of our CPA Research Impact Award for 2021! The CPA Research Impact Award was established to recognize and celebrate research excellence at the Hill and Levene Schools of Business, specifically research that makes a positive impact on our community, as well as the body of knowledge in the perspective areas on research. CPA Saskatchewan has made this award possible through a generous donation.

Gordon is very deserving of this award and his research record is impressive. Since 2018, Gordon has published 41 peer-reviewed journal articles, 4 commentaries, 2 handbooks, 3 chapters, 1 edited book, and 8 popular press articles. He has delivered 19 invited talks, 6 public lectures, and 9 conference presentations. He has also advised a number of students and postdocs. He has secured over $500,000 in grants (housed at the U of R). His research has been cited over 10,000 times, including over 4,200 times in 2020 alone (according to Google Scholar). His work is regularly cited by the media and is already impacting policy for social media companies.

Connelly of McMaster University for $95,527 for 2021-2024 for their project “Is everyone equal in the COVID recovery? Labour market opportunities and exclusion during the job application process”.

Congratulations to our Enactus Regina team who was named as 1 of 20 National Semifinalists for its third consecutive year!

Enactus Regina and Enactus University of Saskatchewan also won this year’s Collaboration Award for their Pushstart project! Pushart is an entrepreneurial social networking initiative led by Project Managers Talha Babar (University of Regina) and Levi Perrault (previously University of Regina, now University of Saskatchewan). Congratulations to Dr. Gordon Pennycook who was the recipient of MIT Sloan Health Systems Initiative Funding for $60,000 for his project “Understanding and Reducing Racial Inequity for COVID-19 Vaccination” with collaborations by Dr. Charles Senteio, Dr. David Rand, and Christie Newton.

Congratulations to the Hill Business Students’ Society who hosted a remote version of their annual Keg-A-Rama fundraiser on February 26th, raising $2,047.83 for the Regina Firefighter Burn Unit.

Congratulations to our Enactus Regina who team placed in the Top Three in their leagues in all three challenge categories at Enactus Canada’s 2021 Western Regional Exposition!

The Hill Business Students’ Society held their 12th annual 5 Days for the Homeless initiative from March 15th through to the 19th. Our students have yet again demonstrated their resilience and creative thinking as they reimagined the event and found a way to support the important work being done by Carmichael Outreach virtually with their Project Live for 5 Days event.

Congratulations to the students for raising $30,230 for Carmichael Outreach, bringing their 12 year total to $410,508!

Members of the Faculty of Business Administration who were honoured in the University of Regina’s Long Service Recognition Awards include: Dr. Ernest Johnson, Dr. Lisa Watson, Raelynn Norbeck, and Thomas Tse for 15 years or service; and Evelyn McRae for a remarkable 35 years of service.

Congratulations to Dr. Abiodun Isiaka and Dr. Jacqui Gagnon who received a 2020-2021 Dean’s Research Grant for their project entitled “Proposed CPA enabling competencies: Online education and the link with practice.”

We hosted our Leader Council Student Recognition event to recognize all of our student groups as well as scholarship recipients, Dean’s Honours List recipients, and alumni associations virtually on February 11.
