ICBC Team Success!

Congratulations to the Hill ICBC team who had 3 of their 4 teams qualify to advance to the final round of competition in Kingston in January. This placed the team in the top six schools in the competition which resulted in them being invited to send a debate team to the final round as well. Congratulations to the teams who advanced:

  • Accounting: Meagan Ireland and Ryan Hamilton (coached by Nola Joorisity)
  • Finance: Boey Leung and Jordan Tholl (coached by Dr. Paul Sinclair and Dr. Youngsoon Kim)
  • Marketing: Eric Gray and Maya Potter (coached by Dr. Tatiana Levit)

Fall 2019 Convocation

Congratulations to the 84 students from the Hill School of Business and 16 students from the Levene Graduate School of Business who convocated in Fall 2019.

Alexa La Plante was the recipient of the Faculty of Business Administration Dean’s Medal and Kira Hall was the recipient of the University Prize in Business Administration.


Hill Dinner

The 46th Annual Hill Dinner, organized by the Hill Business Students’ Society took place on October 17 at the Delta Regina. Dinner include a presentation from our keynote speaker and HILL Award Recipient, Paul Sobey, former President and CEO and current Corporate Director of Empire Company Limited.

Mr. Sobey also spoke in a class for students that same afteroon.

Alumni Crowning Achievement

Congratulations two Hill and Levene Alumni as recipients of 2019 University of Regina Alumni Crowning Achievement Awards (ACAA):

  • Paul McLellan BAdmin’81, MBA’09 is the recipient of the Dr. Robert & Norma Ferguson Award for Service to the University
  • Tyler Willox BBA’11 is the recipient of the Outstanding Young Alumni.

Paul and Tyler, along with the other recipients were formally honoured at the Alumni Crowning Achievement Awards dinner on October 10.

Gary Drummond (BA’72), 2019 Alumni Crowning Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, also announced a $1 million gift to the Hill and Levene Schools Business Building that evening! Thank you to the Drummond family!

Accounting Fellowship

The 26th Accounting Fellowship Awards Banquet was held on October 9 to honour 10 students who were the newest members of the Accounting Fellowship Program, bringing the group to a total of 451 members.

Impact Study

In 2019 the Hill and Levene Schools worked with Economic Development Regina on an Economic and Social Impact Study of our business school. The report confirmed, what we already knew, not only do our students graduate career ready, but our activities contribute to our local and provincial economies in a significant way!

Congratulations to Dr. Justin Feeney who’s SSHRC application was eligible for the Department of National Defence Research Initiative and has been awarded an additional $10,000 in funding.

Prince's Operation Entrepreneur

The Hill and Levene Schools and Enactus Regina hosted Prince’s Operation Entrepreneur for the seventh year under the guidance of faculty advisors Bruce Anderson and student project manager Syed Kaman in August 2019.

Congratulations to Dr. Gord Pennycook who is a co-applicant on a SSHRC Partnership Grant for nearly $2.5 million led by UBC’s School of Journalism for a project entitled “Global Journalism Innovation Lab: Revitalizing journalism and accelerating knowledge mobilization from Canadian universities”.

Congratulations to Dr. Justin Feeney who is the recipient of a SSHRC Insight Development Grant for his project entitled “Improving Prospective Applicant Reactions and Organizational Recruitment”. Justin is principal investigator, J.M. McCarthy is co-investigator ($32,648; July 2019 – June 2021). D. O’Keefe, C. Kemp, S. Gooch, and B. Sylvester are collaborators from the Department of National Defense.

Congratulations to Dr. Ron Camp on the following recent research funding:

  • “An Augmented Training Program for Preventing PTSIs Among Diverse PSP” with co-applicant with Carleton, R. N. (principal applicant) et al. (2019). $30,000 granted from Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) - Team Grant Letter of Intent for Strengthening.
  • “An interdisciplinary and mixed method analysis of the Correctional Services Canada Academy's 13-week Correctional Personnel Training program: Building a 'toolbox' for correctional officer mental health and occupational success by identifying ways to optimize the impact of training for public safety personnel” with co-applicant Rose Ricciardelli (principal applicant) et al. (2019-2020). $111,275 granted from Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) - Catalyst Grant in Post-Traumatic Stress Injuries (PSTI) among Public Safety Personnel.

Women in Entrepreneurship Event

The Hill and Levene Schools of Business with the support of the RBC Woman Executive in Residence program hosted a Women’s Entrepreneurship Leading Trends in Women's Entrepreneurship: Bridging Research and Practice event on June 10.

The event featured presentations by Dr. Lakshmi Balachandra from Babson College, Dr. Wendy Cukier from Ryerson University, Dr. Karen Hughes from University of Alberta, and Dr. Nicola Patterson from Newcastle Business School (in England).

Congratulations to Dr. Justin Feeney who recently wrote the CPHR’s National Knowledge Exam and received the highest score in the province.


Spring 2019 Convocation

Congratulations to the 221 students from the Hill School of Business and 38 students from the Levene Graduate School of Business who convocated in Spring 2019.

Congratulations also to Amy Fong who was the recipient of the Faculty of Business Administration Dean’s Medal and the Leon Goldman Scholarship. Congratulations to Amy and all of our graduates!

Saskatchewan Chamber Chair

Congratulations to Val Sluth, our RBC Woman Executive in Residence and Leaders Council member, who was appointed as the 2019-2020 Chair of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.


Enactus Success

Enactus Regina gave a stellar performance at the Enactus Canada National Exposition in May, propelling them to the semifinal round of competition for the third time in team history. A record 69 teams competed in this year’s exposition, with 20 teams advancing to the semifinals.

Congratulations to Dr. Eman Almehdawe who obtained NSERC Engage Plus funding and Access Communications – Industry funding for her project entitled “Optimization Models for Technician Routing and Scheduling at Access Communications”


Enactus Success

Enactus Regina was selected as one of only six teams (out of over 70 total) to compete in the Capital One Digital for Good Project Accelerator Final Round of Competition during the Enactus Canada National Exposition in Vancouver on May 7th.

They will be presenting on the digitization of their previously award winning Financial Foundations project. Their five competitors include some of the biggest powerhouse teams in the country, including the reigning international champions. Being chosen to compete is a very big deal. Congratulations to the team on their success!

Congratulations to Dr. Andrew Stevens who has been appointed the Unifor Research Scholar for a two-year term.

Thanks to the generous donation of $25,000 from Unifor Local 1-S and Unifor Local 594, for allowing us to further enhance our capacity to produce, publish, and disseminate relevant research.


Scholarship Congratulations!

Congratulations to BBA student, Ziluo (Leo) Wei, who was the recipient of the Mantle-Blachford Award for the coop student of the year. This award is for a co-op student who has excelled his or her work terms, university classes, and extra-curricular activities.


Levene Dinner

The Levene Dinner took place on May 21 featuring keynote speaker Caroline Casey on the topic of “Leading with your Head and Heart”.

Melissa Coomber-Bendtsen, CEO of YWCA spoke at our HerStory event on April 24.


Long Service Recognition

The University of Regina recognized faculty and staff at a Long Service Recognition Awards in March. Members of the Faculty of Business Administration who were honoured include Jim Mason for 40 years of service; Sandra Steen for 20 years of service; Lindsay Eastman and Magda Cismaru for 15 years of service; Marisa Henderson for 10 years of service.


Hill BSS 5 Days for the Homeless

This year’s BSS “5 Days for the Homeless” campaign ran from March 17 through 22. 5 Days is a national campaign and takes place at Universities all across Canada. For 5 Days, 5 participants from the U of R slept outside to raise money for Carmichael Outreach. The 5 participants this year were:

Ryan Selinger from the Faculty of Business
Jordan Tholl from the Faculty of Business
Alice Charles from the Faculty of Arts, Human Justice
Emily Huzil from the Faculty of Social Work, Indigenous Social Work
Hailey Unrau from the Faculty of Nursing

The co-chair for 5 Days are Kelly Phiri, Aubrie Houk and Caitlyn Bilan.

Their 5 Days campaign raised $58,070.89 for Carmichael Outreach. For the fourth year in a row, their total was the largest amount raised of all participating universities (ever). Over the past ten years, the Hill BSS has raised $337,710 for Carmichael Outreach.

A recent donation of $100,000 from Dr. Kenneth Levene will outfit one of the Kenneth Levene Graduate School of Business classrooms with state-of-the-art streaming technology, and help launch a program to offer tailored support to Indigenous students who wish to pursue a graduate-level education.

Congrautions to Bradyn Parisian who has been appointed as the Faculty of Business Administration’s inaugural Rawlinson Executive in Residence in Indigenous Entrepreneurship. Mr. Parisian's appointment will be for two years, effective February 1.
