Dean of Business Administration Announced Dr. Gina Grandy has accepted the University's offer of appointment as Dean of Business Administration at the University of Regina. The appointment is effective July 1, 2018. Dr. Grandy joined the University of Regina in 2013. She is currently the Associate Dean of Research & Graduate Programs, Professor in Strategy and Leadership, and RBC Women in Leadership Scholar with the Hill and Levene Schools of Business. Accounting Fellowship The 24th Accounting Fellowship Awards Banquet was held on October 18 to honour 18 students who were the newest members of the Accounting Fellowship Program, bringing the group to a total of 432 members. |

Congratulations! Congratulations to Paul and Carol Hill who recieved the 2017 Regina Humanitarians of the Year award from the Canadian Red Cross. The Hills were chosen for their extensive contributions to the community and education initiatives. |

Fall 2017 Convocation Congratulations to the 90 students from the Hill School of Business and 26 students from the Levene Graduate School of Business who convocated in Fall 2017. Special congratulations to Murad Al-Katib, Chair of the Levene Advisory Board, who was honoured at convocation with an honourary degree recognizing his contributions as an entrepreneur, business leader and humanitarian. Congratulations also to Cyrena Lockert who was the recipient of the U of R President's Medal and Faculty of Business Administration's Dean's, and Troy Holfeld who was the recipient of the University Prize in Business Administration. Stories about Murad and Cyrena were featured on the U of R Homepage. |

Hill Business Dinner The 44th Annual Hill Business Dinner, hosted by the Hill Business Students' Society took place on October 25 featuring keynote speaker Elyse Allan, President & CEO of GE Canada. Ms. Allan also spoke in a class for students that same afternoon. Congratulations to Evan Wellman who was the recipient of the Leaders Council Undergraduate Scholarship in honour of Elyse Allan. Evan was presented with the award by Ms. Allan at the Dinner. A story about the Dinner was also featured on the U of R Homepage. |

Rawlinson Gift Saskatchewan-born philanthropists Gordon and Jill Rawlinson’s gift of $100,000 established the Rawlinson Fellow in Indigenous Entrepreneurship in the Faculty of Business Administration. The Rawlinson Fellow in Indigenous Entrepreneurship provides money for a fellowship appointment, enabling a faculty member to focus on Indigenous Entrepreneurship. |

Scholar Appointment Dr. Magda Cismaru is the successful applicant of the Conexus Research Scholar in Financial Wellbeing. We had several strong applications, making the decision all the more challenging, and underscoring the strength of the research currently undertaken in our Faculty. Thanks to the generous donation of $25,000 from Conexus Credit Union, the Faculty is able to further enhance our capacity to produce, publish, and disseminate relevant research. |

HRM Appointments Mr. Justin Feeney and Dr. Gordon Pennycook have both accepted our offer to join the Hill and Levene Schools of Business as Assistant Professors in Human Resource Management. Justin will start July 1, 2017 while Gordon will start July 1, 2018. |

Welcome Back! Effective July 1, 2017, Bruce Anderson returned to his position as an instructor in the Faculty of Business, and assumed the role of Executive Lead, Outreach. In 2014 the Associate Vice-President (Development) position in External Relations was vacant and Bruce Anderson agreed to move from our Faculty to take on this Acting role. Bruce strengthened and secured important relationships with the donors, partners, and the philanthropic community so vital to the achievement of the University of Regina’s strategic efforts in supporting student success. |

Welcome! Welcome to Marci Elliott who joined the Hill and Levene Schools of Business as the Assistant Dean, Levene School. Marci comes to us from the AACSB accredited Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba, where she was the Executive Director of the Asper MBA Program. She has been in that role since 2011, following two years as Director of Development for the Asper School. Marci has an MBA from the Asper School and has worked in marketing and business development in other organizations; as a Senior Director at the National Screen Institute, and as Vice-President for the Women’s Television Network. This new Assistant Dean position will focus on graduate student recruitment and student engagement. It will focus on developing a marketing and communications plan aimed at increasing our Levene School registrations while developing supportive corporate and government partners committed to the successful growth of our Levene GSB. The position will work with alumni, faculty and staff to ensure the student experience is one characterized as having graduates enthusiastic about promoting the school; it will be a driving force for increasing the profile and the competitiveness of the Levene graduate programs. |

Congratulations to Dr. Eman Almehdawe who received $10,000 in research funding from Saskatchewan Center for Patient Oriented Research (SCPOR) for her project, “Studying the impact of Emergency Department Occupancy at Regina General Hospital on patient length of stay and outcomes”. |

Levene Dinner The Levene Dinner took place on May 2 featuring keynote speaker W. Brett Wilson, Father, Entrepreneur and Philanthropist. The Levene School also hosted a free speaking engagement with W. Brett Wilson for students that same afternoon. Congratulations to Aurpa Deb Nath who was the recipient of the Leaders Council Graduate Scholarship in honour of W. Brett Wilson. Aurpa was presented with the award by Mr. Wilson at the Dinner. |

The awards are nominated by the presidents of the 32 CABS member schools, and chosen by the CABS Management Team. |

Congratulations! Congratulations to Murad Al-Katib, chair of the Levene Advisory Board, who was one of four recipients of a 2017 Oslo Business for Peace Award. Murad Al-Katib was later named EY World Entrepreneur of the Year. You can learn more about this honour here. |

JBV Symposium The Hill School, alongside the Ivey School of Business co-sponsored a JBV special issue symposium at Ivey, April 6-8 on “Enterprise Before and Beyond Profits: A Transdisciplinary Research Agenda for Prosocial Organizing.” Faculty member Dr. Peter Moroz assisted in the symposium and is co-editor for this special issue. |

Long Service Recognition The University of Regina recognized faculty and staff at the Long Service Recognition Awards in April. Members of the Faculty of Business Administration who were honoured include Wendy Tebb for 35 years of service; Dr. Morina Rennie for 30 years of service; Dr. Bob Anderson, Dr. Youngsoo Kim, Janice Leibel, Dr. Jean-Marie Nkongolo-Bakenda and Marilyn Staseson for 15 years. |

Mitacs Funding Dr. Eman Almehdawe is the internship supervisor along with co-supervisor Dr. Saqib Khan who will be working with Celero Solutions Inc. on a project entitled “Predicting Canadian Credit Union Financial Performance and Its Effect on IT Investment Decisions”. The project received $30,000 in funding through the Mitacs Accelerate Program. |

Keg-a-Rama The Hill BSS hosted the 45th annual Keg-a-Rama on March 31. This year's initiative raised $5,255 for the Regina Firefighters Burn Unit. |

Hill BSS 5 Days for the Homeless This year’s BSS “5 Days for the Homeless” campaign ran from March 19 through 24. 5 Days is a national campaign and takes place at Universities all across Canada. For 5 Days, 5 participants from the U of R will be sleeping outside to raise money for Carmichael Outreach. The 5 participants this year were: Joshua Exner from the Faculty of Science The co-chair for 5 Days is Breanne Dmytriw with assistance from Delanie Wall as the External Director and Georgia Iannone as the Internal Director. Their 5 Days campaign raised $52,074.96 for Carmichael Outreach. For the second year in a row, their total was the largest amount raised of all participating universities. Over the past eight years, the Hill BSS has raised $224,780.11 for Carmichael Outreach. |

Graduate Case Competition Alan Dedman, Kirandeep Kaur, Khaleel Soomro, and Amir Zafar represented the Levene School at the East Meets West Case Competition at Ivey in London, Ontario February 2 -4th. The first day of the competition was a day of composite teams formed from students from different schools. The second day was for homogeneous teams and was considered the primary competition. Though the team didn’t place in the main competition, each of the two winning teams from the first day of competition included a Levene student – congratulations to Alan Dedman and Khaleel Soomro |

Hill Business Development Club The Hill School has a new student group – the Hill Business Development Club aka the Accounting Club. This student run club involves students from all backgrounds with the purpose being to provide an official campus club for accounting students that will help them grow as both students and future CPAs. The club will provide student run events (study sessions, tax solutions, CPA prep courses with the help of the accounting firms, off campus visits for students to CPA firms and businesses, help navigating recruiting). |
